FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- Southern Virginia freshman Paul Monson was named the CAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week for the second time this year on April 24, 2018.

Southern Virginia freshman Paul Monson was named the CAC Player of the Week for the second time this year after going 3-0 in both singles and doubles in a 2-1 week for the Knights, who locked up the No. 4 seed in the CAC Tournament. In a 5-4 win over Hampden-Sydney, Monson recorded a 6-3, 6-0 victory at No. 3 singles and an 8-3 triumph at No. 2 doubles with Ben Spencer. In a 5-4 defeat to Salisbury, he moved up to the No. 1 singles position and earned a 6-2, 5-7, 6-1 win, while again teaming with Spencer for an 8-6 win at No. 2 doubles. Monson wrapped up the week with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles and an 8-1 No. 2 doubles victory vs. Penn State Harrisburg.

The five-team CAC Tournament field is now set ... No. 5 York will travel to No. 4 Southern Virginia for Saturday's first-round matchup at 3 p.m. ... No. 2 Christopher Newport will host No. 3 Salisbury in the semifinals on Wednesday, May 2, with No. 1 Mary Washington to host the SVU/York winner in the other semifinal matchup ... In the ITA National Team Rankings, Mary Washington is ranked No. 12 and Christopher Newport is No. 36 ... In the ITA Atlantic South Regional rankings, UMW is No. 3, CNU is No. 8 and Salisbury is No. 15 ... Three CAC players are ranked in the ITA Atlantic South Region singles rankings - UMW's Matt Miles is No. 9, CNU's David Reed is No. 13, and UMW's Patrick Hughes is No. 15 ... Three doubles teams are ranked in the ITA Atlantic South Region doubles rankings - UMW's Michael Fleming / Ryland Byrd are No. 4, CNU's Justin Cerny / David Reed are No. 5, and UMW's Derek Hagino / Patrick Hughes are No. 14 ... Frostburg State first-year Geoffrey Goldring capped the spring season with his third win in five matches as he captured a 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (7-1) win at No. 3 singles against Bethany ... Matt Miles won a pair of singles matches this weekend for No. 12 Mary Washington. On Saturday at TCNJ, he took a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Mitchel Sanders in a 6-3 Eagle victory. On Sunday, he won at one singles over Mark Fallati, 7-5, 6-4, and also gained a win at two doubles with Moses Hutchison, 8-4, over Thibault Vernier and John Lathrop. Miles has won six of his past seven matches at one singles.
