Christopher Newport Seniors Ryan Scott and Legend Hayes Sweep CAC Men's Track & Field Weekly Awards

FREDERICKBURG, Va. -- Christopher Newport seniors Ryan Scott and Legend Hayes swept the CAC Men's Track & Field weekly awards for March 6, 2018.

Christopher Newport senior Ryan Scott collected CAC Track Athlete of the Week accolades after jumping to 16th in the nation in the 200 meters with his performance at the Tufts Final Qualifier on Saturday. Scott posted a time of 22.15, which also marks the fastest time in the CAC and South/Southeast Region this year. Along with his work in the 200, Scott also ran the anchor leg on the squad's 4x400-relay. That foursome eventually finished the race in 3:20.61, which ranks 22nd in the NCAA and first in the conference and region this year. Scott will compete in the 200 and the 60 hurdles at the NCAA Indoor Championships this weekend.

Christopher Newport senior Legend Hayes was tabbed as the CAC Field Athlete of the Week after establishing a new school record and posting the 30th-best mark in the nation in the weight throw at the Tufts Final Qualifier. Hayes unleashed a 17.34-meter toss, which topped the previous program record of 17.10 set in 2010 by Chris Banks.

Seven Christopher Newport athletes have qualified for the 2018 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships from March 9-10 in Birmingham, Ala. ... CNU's Ryan Scott (200m, 60h), Cullen Monahan (800m), Cavanaugh McGaw (800m), Jeff Dover (mile, 3,000m) and Grayson Reid (5,000m) will compete individually, while the CNU distance medley relay team of Monahan, Dover, Billy Rabil, and Kurt Waller will also represent the Captains at nationals ... Frostburg State sophomore John Kerns capped his indoor campaign by matching his school record while winning an ECAC Title in the weight throw with a toss of 16.85 meters (55 ft. 3.50in.) ... At the Roanoke Maroons Last Chance Meet, Mary Washington senior Jose Mundo finished first in the 60 meters with a time of 6.98 seconds. Davon Guerrier won the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.26 seconds ... Salisbury freshman Ethan Binnix found his way into the record book for the Sea Gulls this weekend at the ECAC Championships posting a time of 1:06.96 in the 500-meter run. With the time, Binnix not only earned a fourth-place finish but also tied the record in the event set back in 2010 by Cory Beebe. Salisbury senior Duncan Ferrin garnered a second-place finish in the weight throw this weekend at the ECAC Division III Championships. Ferrin recorded a throw of 54' 4" to earn the top two finish ... Southern Virginia junior Derek Blasko threw 13.54 meters at the Roanoke NCAA Final Qualifier. SVU's Michael Myers won the 3,000 meter race with a time of 9:12 at the Roanoke Last Chance Qualifier. He also posted a program best time in the 800 meter race with a time of 1:59.14.
