FREDERICKBURG, Va. -- Christopher Newport senior Grayson Reid was tabbed as the CAC Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week for Oct. 3, 2017.

Christopher Newport senior Grayson Reid was selected as the CAC Athlete of the Week after establishing a new program record in the 8k with a time of 24:39 at the 44th Annual Paul Short Run at Lehigh University's Goodman Cross Country Course on Friday. His time placed him second among Division III competitors and 74th overall in a field comprised of nationally-ranked programs from Division I, II, and III. It also shaved four seconds off of his own previous 8k record of 24:43, which he established last year at the same meet. Guided by Reid's work, the 13th-ranked Captains placed third among Division III programs in the final team standings, beating out the likes of No. 3 Johns Hopkins, No. 15 Williams, No. 17 Middlebury, and No. 24 TCNJ in the decorated field. Reid's raced to a 4:58 mile pace throughout the 8k course.

Christopher Newport is ranked No. 13 in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Rankings ... Frostburg State junior Robert Romano continued his success at Maplehurst Country Club as Frostburg hosted the Bobcat Invitational. He secured a third-place finish for the second-straight year as he covered the 8k course in 28:43 and helped the Bobcats win the meet for the second year-in-a-row ... Marymount senior Graham Clark and freshman Chase Goodwin finished back-to-back, battling over the final 400 meters as they led the Saints to a sixth place finish at the Frostburg State Invitational Saturday at Maplehurst Country Club. Clark finished 32nd in a time of 34:04.87 while Goodwin finished 33rd, setting a new personal record with a mark of 34:07.72, besting his previous best set at the Shannon Henretty Invitational by almost 40 seconds ... Mary Washington sophomore Jeff Gibson finished 18th overall as UMW competed at the Dickinson Long-Short Invitational on Saturday. He crossed the line at 26:49 ... Salisbury freshman David Strickland led the Sea Gulls with a first-place finish passing Bridgewater's Robert Hiegel down the home stretch to edge out Hiegel by one second. Strickland came home in a time 25:23.27 for the first win of his collegiate career ... Wesley's Anthony Anastasi placed 41st at the Don Cathcart Invitational at Salisbury with a time of 27:22.91, averaging a 5:30.5 mile.
