FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- Christopher Newport freshman first baseman Kaitlyn Hasty and CNU junior Aubrey Bates swept the CAC Softball Players of the Week for March 18, 2019.

Player of the Week

Christopher Newport freshman first baseman Kaitlyn Hasty started all six games and logged at least one hit in each of six wins for CNU this week. She led the team in RBI, with 16, and scored 5 times while blasting five home runs. She added a double and a triple to slug 1.706 on the week with seven extra-base hits. She hit .647 with 11 hits in 17 at-bats and came up in clutch moments for the Captains. In two of the Captains run-rule victories, Hasty walked off for CNU. She hit a towering three-run blast to walk-off with a 12-4 win against 13th-ranked Lynchburg and then launched a solo shot to end a 9-1 game against Roanoke. She raised her batting average 193 points to .500 with her performance this week and is now slugging a team-best .949 while reaching base at a .512 clip. Had two multi-homer games this week and five total blasts to lead CNU's 17-homer week as a team. 

 

Pitcher of the Week

Christopher Newport junior pitcher Aubrey Bates appeared in three of CNU's six games this week without allowing a run. She tossed a pair of complete game shutouts to go 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA and 12 strikeouts in 15.0 innings of work. In her first start of the week, against 13th-ranked Lynchburg, Bates was perfect through the first three innings and gave up just a single and a walk through five. It was her first seven-inning shutout of the year and fifth of her career as she finished with 5 K. She tossed a perfect final frame against Penn State Behrend in a 13-5 win and then started against versus Roanoke on Sunday. Against the Maroons, Bates struck out six in a two-hit shutout. This marks the second straight week Bates has earned CAC Pitcher of the Week honors.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

Frostburg State's Katelyn Mehrling posted a win in the circle on Sunday afternoon by throwing the program's eighth no-hitter as it defeated Principia, 17-0 ... She struckout three and walked just one...Frostburg State's Taylor McCarty hit .667 in Frostburg's two wins on the week ... She also scored six runs and drove in six...York's Shyla Pastore had a great week as she did it everything for York in a week where the Spartans split a doubleheader with Stevenson University. Offensively, Pastore hit .429 in the two games while scoring four runs and blasting her first career homerun in the game two win in extra innings over the Mustangs. Pastore also came into the circle and picked up the save with a scoreless inning pitched. She was also perfect in the field in her 12 chances at second base and in the circle...Mary Washington's Rachel Porchie batted .412 for the week, with seven hits in 17 at bats including a double and a home run. She posted six RBI with three walks and a pair of strikeouts on the week, with a 476 on base percentage and .647 slugging average...Salisbury's Cat Ramagnano was 4-for-9 this past week, scoring twice, including one of the two runs Salisbury scored against the two-time defending National Player of the Year Hanna Hull, the only two runs Hull has allowed in 49 innings this year.
