York Senior Shea Wassel Secures CAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week

YORK, Pa. -- York senior Shea Wassel earned CAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week honors for Jan. 19, 2014.

York senior Shea Wassel was named the CAC Player of the Week after leading the Spartans to a pair of CAC wins with averages of 19.5 points and 15.0 rebounds per contest. In a 70-63 win at Frostburg State, Wassel totaled 16 points and 17 rebounds, before posting 23 points and 13 boards in a 99-69 triumph over Southern Virginia for her eighth double-double of the season. She shot 66.7% (16-for-24) from the field for the week.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

Salisbury is ranked 18th in the WBCA/USA TODAY Top-25 and 20th D3hoops.com rankings ... Salisbury remains the lone unbeaten in the CAC with an 8-0 conference record, followed by Mary Washington (7-1), Marymount (6-2) and Christopher Newport (6-2) ... Christopher Newport senior Camry Green moved up to sixth on the all-time rebounding list at CNU, with 889 rebounds ... Frostburg State's Ronje' James scored her 1,000th point in a loss to Salisbury on Saturday, becoming the 18th player in program history to reach the milestone. She averaged 23.5 points in two games for Frostburg last week, also grabbing eight rebounds and seven steals ... Sophomore Brianne Comden led Mary Washington to a pair of CAC wins last week to improve to 11-4 and 7-1 in CAC play. She scored 13.5 points and 6.0 rebounds for the week, as the Eagles topped Southern Virginia and Penn State Harrisburg on the road ... Kiki Laux scored a career-high 17 points in Marymount's crucial win over Christopher Newport on Saturday ... Nina Haller averaged a double-double in St. Mary's 1-1 week. Haller started the week with her third double-double of the season with game-best 17 points and career-best 14 rebounds, before finishing out the week with game-high 14 points and seven boards ... Sarah Seipp guided Salisbury to yet again another 2-0 week in the conference, averaging 15.5 ppg to lead SU ... Southern Virginia's Crystal Cleveland now has six double-doubles on the season after leading the Knights with 19 points with 13 rebounds in the Knights' 80-66 loss to Mary Washington last Wednesday ... Wesley's Brionna Johnson posted a pair of double-doubles last week and continues to lead the nation in the category.
