Christopher Newport freshman Johanna Ranta-aho secured CAC Player of the Week honors after posting a 3-1 record in both singles and doubles last week for the Captains. Ranta-aho's only losses of the week came against fifth-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. She helped CNU pick up wins over Chapman, Caltech, and No. 24 Redlands with her victories at No. 2 singles and doubles. She paired with Kate Huck in doubles, earning an 8-0 win at Chapman, an 8-3 win at Caltech, and an 8-2 win at Redlands. In singles, Ranta-aho suffered her only loss to 14th-ranked Catherine Allen (CMS), while picking up wins against Nicole Fouts (6-0, 6-1) from Chapman, Julia Reisler (6-1, 6-0) from Caltech, and Emily Murnin (2-6, 6-4, 6-2) from Redlands.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

Four CAC women's tennis teams were in action last week ... Frostburg State, Penn State Harrisburg, and York are slated to begin the spring campaign this week ... Mary Washington went 2-0 last week with victories over Cal Lutheran (9-0) and Redlands (6-3) ... Southern Virginia defeated Mary Baldwin 9-0 and Lynchburg 6-3 last week. Freshman Makaela Adamson won both doubles matches over Mary Baldwin (8-0) and Lynchburg (8-4), and also won her No. 5 singles match 6-4 7-6 (7-3) against Lynchburg to seal the victory for the Knights.
