Christopher Newport University rookie Johanna Ranta-aho was named the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Atlantic-South Region Rookie of the Year on Thursday, becoming just the second player in program history to collect the honor. After a record-breaking freshman campaign, Ranta-aho adds to her mantel which also includes the Capital Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year designation announced after the conference championship.

Mary Washington freshman Rachel Summers was named the CAC Player of the Week for the second straight week after going undefeated in singles and doubles play last week for the 17th-ranked Eagles. Summers went 3-0 in singles play and 2-0 in doubles, including a pair of victories in a 5-4 loss to 12th-ranked Carnegie Mellon. The Eagles defeated York and Penn State Harrisburg, moving them to 6-0 in conference play and locking up the top seed in the CAC Tournament.

Mary Washington freshman Rachel Summers secured CAC Player of the Week honors after going 3-0 in both singles and doubles last weekend, including the match-clinching point in a 5-4 upset win over No. 11 Washington & Lee. Summers and the 17th-ranked Eagles topped Southern Virginia, No. 35 TCNJ, Frostburg State, and Washington & Lee. In singles, Summers won at No. 3 singles over Southern Virginia and No. 4 singles against TCNJ and Washington & Lee. She also teamed with Ashley Barrow to gain a win at No. 1 doubles against Southern Virginia and at No. 2 against TCNJ and Washington & Lee.

Salisbury freshman Jordan Schaefer was chosen as the CAC Player of the Week after going 6-0 last week in a 2-1 week for the Sea Gulls. Schaefer was a perfect 3-0 in singles matches at the No. 5 position, posting straight-set victories against Occidental and Whittier and a three-set triumph against 40th-ranked Oberlin. In doubles, she teamed with Claudia Lohn for a trio of victories at the No. 2 spot.
