York junior Jess Miller, the CAC runner-up, was the top CAC finisher at the Mid-East Regional hosted by Lehigh on Saturday, helping York to eighth place. Christopher Newport took eighth in the South/Southeast Regional, led by senior Jessia McClelland in 18th place.

Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013, will go down as a historic day for Christopher Newport University - a first-year member of the Capital Athletic Conference. The Captains’ women’s cross country team won the University’s first CAC team championship in any sport, placed five runners on the 16-member all-conference team and saw freshman Briana Stewart and mentor Matthew Barreau pick up the CAC’s Rookie of the Year and Coach of the Year awards.

Defending Champion Mary Washington Ready To Battle Challengers For The 2013 CAC Women's Cross Country Crown

At the 2012 CAC Women’s Cross Country championships, Mary Washington and York each had three runners among the top seven across the finish line. The teams finished just six points apart in the final standings, with the Eagles emerging with the championship trophy for the first time in five years. The Spartans will be one of 10 teams, featuring more than 100 competitors, vying for team and individual honors at the CAC Championship Meet, to be held at Winter Place Park in Salisbury, Md. The women’s championship race begins at 11 a.m., followed by the men’s chase at noon.

The York women's cross country team, led by the third-place finish by junior Jess Miller, finished third while host Salisbury placed fourth to lead the CAC teams in the 2013 Don Cathcart Invitational. At Dickinson, the Mary Washington women's squad had a strong showing and placed fifth in the "Long" race team standings.
