Salisbury Edges Christopher Newport in Overtime, Nabs 18th CAC Field Hockey Championship

For the second straight year, Salisbury edged Christopher Newport in overtime to claim the CAC Field Hockey Championship, Saturday evening at Sea Gull Stadium in Salisbury, Md.

The top-seeded Sea Gulls posted a 2-1 triumph over third-seeded CNU on Chandler Littleton's score just under five minutes into extra time.

With the win, the Sea Gulls (17-1), ranked No. 1 in the nation, receive the CAC's automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament. The NCAA brackets will be announced via a live selection show on Sunday at 10:30 p.m. To watch the show, click here

Christopher Newport (12-7) took the initial lead in the contest as Carol Thompson tipped in a Madison Doss feed in the 20th minute, a lead the Captains held into the halftime break. 

Salisbury knotted things up at 1-1 in the 44th minute when Mallory Elliott finished an assist from Summer Washburn. Neither side was able to find the back of the cage throughout the remainder of regulation, sending the contest into overtime. Early on the overtime, Littleton delivered her first goal of the year off an assist from Washburn, giving the Sea Gullls the dramatic win.
