YORK, Pa. -- Salisbury junior Samantha Johnson and Wesley junior Sarah Daniels have been named the CAC Field Hockey Players of the Week for Sept. 2, 2014. 

Offensive Player of the Week

Salisbury junior Samantha Johnson was selected as the CAC Offensive Player of the Week after scoring five times on just seven shots in two wins for the Sea Gulls. She opened the season with two goals and an assist in a 7-0 triumph over SUNY Geneseo, before tallying a hat trick with the first three goals in the Sea Gulls' 9-1 win against Wilkes in the championship game of the Colonel Classic. 


Defensive Player of the Week

Pocomoke, Md. | Washington 

Wesley junior Sarah Daniels was awarded as the CAC Defensive Player of the Week after helping the Wolverines to an upset victory over 19th-ranked Lynchburg on Saturday. Daniels recorded 12 saves in the win over the Hornets, who outshot Wesley 29-14 for the game.

CAC teams went a combined 10-0 over the opening weekend of competition ... Salisbury is #2, Christopher Newport #4 and Mary Washington #16 in the NFHCA Preseason Rankings ... Belle Tunstall notched a goal and an assist to lead Christopher Newport to a season-opening 2-0 victory over Denison on Saturday ... Frostburg State's Courtney Abell scored the game-winner in OT to lift the Bobcats past McDaniel 2-1 ... Mary Washington's Nicole Guinn broke the school record for goals in a game with five in a 16-0 win over Ferrum. The team's 16 goals also broke a single game record, surpassing the mark of 13 set in 1991 ... Olivia Edwards scored twice, including the equalizer, as St. Mary's posted a 3-2 OT season-opening win over Delaware Valley ... Gracie Daniels scored her first ever game-winner with a goal in double overtime to give Wesley a 2-1 come-from-behind upset victory over #19 Lynchburg ... York freshman forward Autumn Mallory led the Spartans to a 2-0 start with three goals in York's opening two games.
