Salisbury's Hunteman, Christopher Newport’s Kerr Named C2C Field Hockey Players of the Week

The Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) has announced its weekly awards following the second week of the 2024 field hockey season. Salisbury's Arden Hunteman captured C2C Offensive Player of the Week honors, while Christopher Newport's Lily Kerr was named C2C Defensive Player of the Week.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Arden Hunteman, Salisbury

Salisbury sophomore Arden Hunteman scored a career-high four goals on four shots in the team's 7-1 win over Washington College. She scored a goal on two shots in the teams dominating 4-0 victory over No. 5 Messiah.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Lily Kerr, Christopher Newport

Christopher Newport junior Lily Kerr continued her shutout streak with 114 minutes of scoreless action during a pair of victories last week. In a win at No. 18 Franklin & Marshall on Saturday, she picked up four saves, including a pair during the early part of the contest to keep the game knotted at zero. Later, after the Captains took a lead, she added back-to-back stops during a five-second assault to polish off the 3-0 triumph. That marked just the second shutout on the road by CNU against a top-25 opponent in the past decade. On Sunday, she came back with her fifth save of the week after kicking away Haverford's lone on-target shot during the first three quarters. Later, she exited the contest with a comfortable 3-0 lead in the 54th minute. With her two victories during the week, she moved to second on the program's all-time wins list with 32 career triumphs. Meanwhile, coupled with her shutout against Denison last week, Kerr's 174-minute scoreless streak to open the year is now the third-longest by a CNU goalie to begin a season in school history.

HONORABLE MENTION

OFFENSIVE: Emily Evans, Christopher Newport

DEFENSIVE: Hannah Johnson, Salisbury

C2C HIGHLIGHTS

Christopher Newport's Emily Evans extended her scoring streak to three straight games after finding the back of the cage in both victories over the weekend. In a win at No. 18 Franklin & Marshall on Saturday, she gave the Captains a 2-0 edge with a strike in the second quarter. On Sunday, she added a fourth-quarter tally in a 4-1 win at Haverford. Coupled with her goal in the opener last week, Evans became the fifth player in program history to open a season with a goal in three straight contests… Salisbury's Hannah Johnson, a Lincoln University, Pa. native, played all 120 minutes for the Sea Gulls in two games this past week. In those two games, the defense only allowed one goal and picked up a 7-1 win over Washington College and a 4-0 win over No. 5 Messiah.
