YORK, Pa. -- Wesley senior Greg Taylor and Christopher Newport junior Wesley Shrieves secured CAC Men's Track & Field Athlete of the Week awards for Jan. 24, 2017.

Wesley senior Greg Taylor was tabbed as the CAC Track Athlete of the Week after recording the top times in the CAC in the 60-meter dash and 200-meter dash at the Terrapin Invitational on Saturday. Taylor placed second in the 60 at 6.95 and fourth in the 200 at 22.73. His 60 time ranks 13th in the nation, while his 200 mark ranks 34th.

Christopher Newport junior Wesley Shrieves was named the CAC Field Athlete of the Week for the second straight week after breaking his one-week-old CAC mark in the indoor long jump at the Captains Invitational on Saturday. He tacked nearly seven inches onto his old record after winning the event with a 7.25-meter effort. That performance not only broke his old conference record of 7.08 meters, but it also ranks third in the nation this year. Along with his long jump, Shrieves placed second in the triple jump (13.15 meters), third in the high jump (1.90 meters), and fourth in the 60 (7.05). He was the top Division III finisher in all three of those disciplines.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

Seven CAC teams competed last week, while Salisbury will begin its indoor campaign this week ... The CAC Indoor Track & Field Championships are set for Saturday, Feb. 18 at Christopher Newport ... Frostburg State sophomore Christian Healey captured third place in the triple jump in a season-best and ECAC-qualfying 13.64 meters at the Susquehanna Orange & Maroon Classic ... Mary Washington freshman Camron Rauch broke the UMW school indoor record in the 300 meters on Saturday at the Maryland Terrapin Invitational. Rauch crossed the line at 36.09, finishing sixth overall. Freshman David Danek finished second in the high jump with a leap of 1.88 meters ...Southern Virginia competed in its first-ever track & field meet at the Captains Invitational hosted by CNU. Derek Blasko placed sixth in the shot put and second among Division III opponents at 12.48 meters ... Wesley freshman Rayshawn McRae capped off his first collegiate indoor meet with a third-place finish in the triple jump. McRae jumped 13.42 meters. McRae also placed 13th in the long jump with a leap of 6.04 meters ... York junior Alex Smith finished second in the 5,000 meter run at the Orange and Maroon Classic hosted by Susquehanna on Saturday. Smith crossed the finish line in a time of 16:16.51. Darien Gray finished sixth in the 60-meter hurdles for the Spartans at 9.33, and also earned an eight-place finish in the triple jump at 12.64 meters.
