YORK, Pa. -- Christopher Newport senior Scoop Simon and Salisbury freshman Brooke Mizelle were named the CAC Softball Players of the Week for Apri 18, 2016.

Christopher Newport senior Scoop Simon was named the CAC Player of the Week for the second time this season after leading Christopher Newport to a 4-0 week with a .545 batting average, two home runs, nine RBIs and six runs scored. Simon also registered two doubles, slugged 1.273 and posted an on-base percentage of .643. She notched at least one hit, one RBI and one run scored in all four contests.

Salisbury freshman Brooke Mizelle was picked as the CAC Pitcher of the Week for the second time this year after tallying a 4-0 record with a 0.00 ERA in 20 innings last week. Mizelle had three complete-game shutouts in her four appearances this past week, including a three-hit, six-inning effort against the CAC's second-ranked offense by batting average (Frostburg State). She recorded 17 strikeouts and allowed just 15 hits on the week. With last week's performance, Mizelle has not allowed an earned run in 29-straight innings.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

Salisbury swept Frostburg State on Sunday to lock up the No. 1 seed and home-field advantage in the CAC Tournament ... The Sea Gulls will host the double-elimination CAC Tournament from Thursday through Saturday at the SU Softball Field ... The CAC Tournament opener will feature fifth-seeded Mary Washington and fourth-seeded York on Thursday at 10 a.m. Second-seeded and Christopher Newport will take on third-seeded Frostburg State (24-12, 9-5) at noon, with Salisbury set to face the game one winner at 2 p.m. ... In the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) April 13 rankings, Salisbury is No. 5 and Christopher Newport is No. 9 ... Frostburg State junior Hannah Tavik hit .321 (9-of-28) with nine RBIs, two runs and two doubles as the Bobcats closed out their regular season ... Mary Washington junior Zoie Patrick batted .625 for the week, with five hits in eight at bats, against nationally-ranked CNU and Salisbury ... Salisbury's Paige Knussman was rolling at the plate last week, putting up a .500 batting average with two home runs, five doubles, 10 runs scored and 12 RBIs. In Salisbury's 5-1 win against Frostburg State, which locked up the top seed in the upcoming CAC tournament, Knussman was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Knussman continues to climb in the Salisbury record books, reaching a tie for second in program history in home runs, also moving into a solo second for RBIs ... Mollie Gabbert finished the year as Southern Virginia's leader in batting average, RBIs and home runs, and only made one error at first base all season ... Ashley Royer was Wesley's most consistent source of offense last week, reaching base in every game the Wolverines played. The freshman crushed a solo home run that ended up being the difference in an 8-7 win over Penn State Harrisburg. She also hit a two-run home run in a loss at Christopher Newport. Royer went 5-for-16 from the plate with three extra base hits and three RBIs ... Melissa Jurkiewicz led the Spartans to a 3-3 week as she went 2-1 in the circle with a 1.75 ERA in 20 innings of work. She struck out eight and walked only two.
