YORK, Pa. -- Christopher Newport senior Meaghan Galvin and York sophomore Nicole Clauter were selected as the CAC Women's Lacrosse Players of the Week for March 21, 2017.  

Offensive Player of the Week

Christopher Newport senior Meaghan Galvin was chosen as the CAC Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this season after totaling seven goals, four assists, and 19 draw controls in a 3-0 week for the Captains. On Tuesday at Randolph-Macon, she established a new career-high with 11 draw controls. That total also marked the second-highest single-game total in CNU history. Along with her work on the draw, she added five points, including a pair of late strikes in the second half to thwart a Yellow Jacket comeback attempt during the 13-11 win. On Saturday, she kicked off CAC action with five points, including three assists, during a 12-11 win at Marymount. During that contest, she also added seven draw controls and scored the game-winning goal with one second left on the clock to seal the victory. The following afternoon, she wrapped up her week with another second-half goal to stretch CNU's lead with five minutes left in regulation during a 7-5 triumph at Stevens.

Defensive Player of the Week

York sophomore Nicole Clauter claimed CAC Defensive Player of the Week honors for the second straight week after leading the Spartans to a 12-5 win over SUNY Oswego in their only action of the week. She registered five draw controls, two ground balls, and a career-high three caused turnovers in the win. Clauter played the first 45 minutes of the game before being subbed out in the lopsided win. When Clauter was on the field, the Spartans allowed just three goals on eight shots. For the season, Clauter is ranked fifth in the CAC in draw controls and leads the Spartans in draw controls (22), ground balls (22) and caused turnovers (7).

Three CAC teams are ranked in the IWLCA National Rankings, with York at No. 8, Salisbury at No. 10, and Mary Washington at No. 16 ... Mary Washington sophomore Hanna Ashby stopped 12 shots in a 9-7 loss to No. 10 Salisbury on Saturday ... Marymount junior Abby Wescott led the Saints in a 1-1 week, posting seven points through two games. The Saints registered their sixth win of the season on Monday against SUNY Canton, with Wescott posting a game-high six points off four assists and two goals ... In a 1-1 week for St. Mary's, Emma Brown picked up nine saves, two ground balls, and two caused turnovers in the win at Roanoke before adding career-bests of three ground balls and three caused turnovers at No. 8 Washington and Lee ... Wesley's Rodneisha Scott paced the Wolverines defense against Frostburg State with four caused turnovers and seven ground balls ... York's Regan Cook tied a career-high with three goals in the Spartans' lone game of the week, a 12-5 win over Oswego State on Sunday. For the season, Cook is tied for the team lead with 11 goals. She has scored her 11 goals on 20 total shots in her five games.
