FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- Christopher Newport senior Nick Baham & sophomore Josh Husby swept CAC baseball weekly awards for April 1, 2019.   

Player of the Week

Christopher Newport senior Nick Baham led the Captains with four home runs while finishing with a 1.267 slugging percentage during a three-game sweep against Mary Washington over the weekend. With his fourth home run of the week, he moved into a tie for second on the program's all-time charts with 27 career blasts. The senior eventually pounded out seven hits during the series, including three in both ends of Saturday's doubleheader. He finished the week with a .467 batting average and eight RBI to go along with five runs scored.

Christopher Newport sophomore Josh Husby established a new career-high with 13 strikeouts during seven innings of work against Mary Washington on Saturday. His 13 whiffs tied the fifth-highest single-game total in program history and marked just the second time a Captain has struck out at least 13 in seven innings or less. The sophomore eventually scattered just three hits and allowed only a single unearned run during the 10-1 victory against the Eagles. This marks his second CAC Pitcher of the Week honor this season.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

Salisbury's Xavier Marmol collected two wins--both coming in relief--against Penn State-Harrisburg over the weekend. The freshman combined to pitch 7 2/3 scoreless innings while scattering five hits and striking out three batters in the process...Frostburg's Nick Fuhrmann hit .750 (6-for-8) with four runs, three doubles and a home run in a split with York ... Sophomore Colby Lee struckout nine batters in just over six innings of work as FSU won game one...York's Brandon White had a strong week at the plate for the Spartans as York went 2-2. White hit .353 for the week with six RBIs and a grand slam. White has been a major run-producer all year as he leads the team with 22 RBI and a pair of grand slams...Salisbury's Jimmy Monaghan continued to add big numbers to his scorching hot season last week, combining to go 6-for-14 (.429) at the plate as the team's designated hitter. The lefty's success at the plate included a double, a home run, and 10 RBI. Monaghan also finished the weekend drawing two walks and scoring five runs...Mary Washington's Garrett Lyons turned in a 9-19 week at the plate (.474) in a walkoff win against Roanoke and a three game set against #1 Christopher Newport. He registered a career-high five hits, including a double and triple, against the Maroons with two runs scored. He then rapped out four hits against the Captains including a home run, scoring three runs. For the week, his OPS was 1.289...Southern Virginia's Cole Critchfield anchored the Knights to a 3-1 week including their first CAC sweep of the season, hitting .353 collecting three RBI's for the week on six hits, a pair of doubles and a triple...Penn State Harrisburg's Travis Van Houten continued to produce at the plate in a big way for Penn State Harrisburg in five games last week. For the week, he hit .474 with an on-base percentage of .524, a slugging percentage of .947 and an impressive OPS of 1.471. The junior racked up 18 total bases on nine hits and two walks, homering twice, hitting three doubles and driving in seven runs.He saved his best efforts for No. 16 Salisbury, with both home runs, one double and five of his RBI coming against the nationally-ranked squad. In game one against the Seagulls, he slugged 1.000 before topping that with a 1.400 slugging percentage in game three of the series. On the mound, he left the opening game of the weekend series with the lead after striking out four batters in five innings. In the infield, he posted a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage in a win over Ursinus and the first game against SU.
