Christopher Newport captured its third Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) Men's Basketball Championship in four years on Saturday (Feb. 23) with a 78-56 victory over York (Pa.) inside the Freeman Center on the campus of Christopher Newport University.

Senior Jason Bady capped his regular season with another pair of masterful performances for the Spartans as York captured a share of their second straight CAC regular season championship. Bady began the week with his fourth double-double of the year in the road win at Frostburg. Bady had 24 points and 13 rebounds in his 40 minutes of work. Bady wss 7-for-14 from the floor and 9-for-10 from the line. He added two assists, a block and a steal in the win. He followed that with a game-winning performance in the home win over Mary Washington. Bady hit a pair of free throws with 4.1 seconds left to give the Spartans their final margin of victory. He finished the day with 14 points, eight rebounds, three assists, two steals and a trio of blocked shots including a monster block and rebound in the final 30 seconds that helped the Spartans earn the win over the Eagles. For the week, Bady averaged 19 points, 10.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.5 steals, and 2.0 blocks per game. He shot 50% from the floor and 82.4% from the free throw line.

Christopher Newport and York both clinched a share of the men's basketball regular season title after notching 12-2 records in conference play. CNU earned the No. 1 seed for the upcoming CAC Men's Basketball Tournament via a coin flip tiebreaker. The Captains are 22-3 overall on the season, while York is 19-6 on the season.

York senior Jason Bady had another big week for the first place Spartans as York remained tied for first place with a pair of victories for the week. Bady began his week with a career-high tying 35 points including scoring his 1,000th career point and hitting the game-winning free throw with 1.4 seconds left against Salisbury. Bady went 12-for-18 from the floor and 1-for-2 from three while he also went 10-for-11 from the free throw line. Bady also had eight rebounds, a steal and a blocked shot in 39 minutes of work. His lone free throw miss was an intentional misfire at the end of the game. Bady followed that with 18 points, seven rebounds, two steals and a blocked shot in the road win at St. Mary's. Bady was 7-for-11 including 2-for-3 from three and 2-for-3 from the line. Bady finished the week averaging 26.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game as he shot 65.6% from the floor, 60% from three and 85.7% from the free throw line. Bady ranks second in the league in scoring, sixth in rebounding, sixth in free throw percentage, sixth in field goal percentage, and fifth in blocked shots per game.

Christopher Newport sophomore guard Jason Aigner led the 17th-ranked Captains to two CAC victories this week by posting 20 and 25 points as CNU defeated St. Mary?s and Mary Washington. Aigner shot 50% from the field and 50% from three-point range, and matched a career best with 25 points Saturday vs. Mary Wasington. He now has connected on 79 threes this season, third-best in a single season in program history.

York claimed victories over Frostburg State and No. 15 Christopher Newport last week, moving into a three-way tie atop the Capital Athletic Conference. The Spartans shot 52.4-percent overall in Wednesday's 87-75 win over Frostburg State, and then got a game-winning layup from Jared Wagner with 4.9 seconds remaining to outlast Christopher Newport 82-81 on Saturday. The wins improved York to 13-6 overall and 6-2 in conference games.

Mary Washington senior forward Johnny Cronin helped Mary Washington extend its win streak to five straight by averaging 16.5 points and 11.5 rebounds for the week, shooting an astounding 92.5% from the field (13-14), and made 7-10 free throws. He scored 16 points on 7-8 shooting with nine rebounds in a 79-67 win at St. Mary's and added 17 points and 14 rebounds by going 6-6 from the field in a 74-62 win over York. He averages 13.2 points and 10.2 rebounds per game this season, and shoots 68.2% from the field.

Chappell led the 21st ranked Captains to a 2-0 week that also included a home victory over St. Mary's. Overall on the week, Chappell averaged 20 points and six rebounds shooting 72.2 percent from the floor.

Schultz opened up the week with a career-best 30 points on 13-of-16 shooting in the win over Greensboro. He has scored in double digits in eight consecutive games. Schultz then tallied 10 rebounds and a career-high 5 blocks in the victory over William Peace. He currently leads the conference in scoring while ranking third in both field goal percentage and rebounding.

Penn State Harrisburg had just one contest last week and Kahlil Williams took full advantage of his 31 minutes of action, posting his first double-double of the season in the team's come-from-behind victory over Elizabethtown on Wednesday night, Dec. 5. The senior racked up a game-high 31 points on a stellar 11-of-14 shooting (78.6 percent) to go along with a season-high 10 rebounds. The post player was crucial in helping the Lions mount a comeback, scoring 14 points in the first half to cut what had been a double-digit deficit to one at halftime. The Philly native also came up clutch down the stretch thanks to his converting nine free throws on the night, including going 4-for-4 in the final three minutes. Williams also added a pair of assists and two steals in a victory that improved the Blue & White to 7-1 on the year.

Chris Bing's performance was instrumental during Penn State Harrisburg's most-recent 2-0 stretch. The senior recorded two double-doubles in as many outings to lead the Lions to victories over Immaculata on Monday night and Messiah on Saturday afternoon. The forward netted a team-high 21 points on 60-percent shooting, pulled in a game-best 16 rebounds, dished out five assists and blocked two shots in the hotly-contested road win at Immaculata. The Philadelphia native followed it up with 16 points on 80-percent shooting to go along with a game-high 10 boards, two steals and an assist in just 19 minutes of action in the team's 80-54 rout of Messiah over the weekend. For the week, Bing averaged 18.5 points on 68 percent shooting from the field, as well as 13 rebounds, three assists, 1.5 assists and one block per contest. Thanks to his efforts, the Lions are off to a 6-1 start.
