Christopher Newport Sophomore Jeff Dover and Freshman Jonathan Graham Sweep CAC Men's Track & Field Weekly Honors

YORK, Pa. -- Christopher Newport swept this week's conference honors as sophomore Jeff Dover and freshman Jonathan Graham were named the CAC Men's Track & Field Athletes of the Week for March 8, 2016.

Christopher Newport sophomore Jeff Dover was named the CAC Track Athlete of the Week for the second time this year after helping the Distance Medley Relay set new school and conference records with a time of 10:01.65 at the Tufts Final Qualifier. That time cut almost eight seconds off the previous standard of 10:09.00 set last year. The DMR of Dover, Zach Campbell, Cullen Monahan and Billy Rabil are ranked fifth in the nation and qualified for nationals with their record-setting performance. Dover also finished third in the 800 - and first among Division III competitors - during the George Mason Last Chance Meet. He posted a time of 1:54.68, which moved him to fourth on the program's all-time list and ranked 35th in the nation.

Christopher Newport freshman Jonathan Graham was named the CAC Field Athlete of the Week for the fourth time after breaking the CAC and school records in the pole vault during the Tufts Final Qualifier. He cleared 4.71 meters to win the event, breaking his own mark of 4.65 meters set at the Vince Brown Invitational last month. His performance at the Tufts Final Qualifier moved him to 25th in the nation.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

A conference-record 16 male CAC athletes have qualified for the 2016 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships this weekend in Grinnell, Iowa ... The previous high number of CAC men's qualifiers was five in 2014 ... Men's competitors will include Salisbury's Luke Campbell (two-time defending champion in 60m hurdles), Zach Schmelz (4x400), Eric Halton (4x400) and Jerel Madison (4x400), Wesley's Anthony Simpson (60m, 200m), DaJahn Lowery (60m), Roland Attoh-Okine (60m hurdles), Vicco Bedell (4x400), Carlton Sheppard (4x400), Nick Stenderowicz (4x400) and Patrick Schlosser (4x400), Christopher Newport's Zach Campbell (DMR), Cullen Monahan (DMR), Jeff Dover (DMR) and Billy Rabil (DMR), and Frostburg State's J.R. Lowery (shot put) ... Last week, Frostburg State's J.R. Lowery captured third place in the shot put at 16.24 meters and 10th in the weight throw at 15.96 meters at the ECAC Indoor Championships ... Salisbury's Luke Campbell won the ECAC title in the 60-meter hurdles at 8.01 seconds, and placed fourth in the event the previous week at George Mason in 7.99 seconds. Campbell has also led the Sea Gulls' 4x400-meter relay team, which has set the school record in each of the last two meets. Andrew Volz collected five top-three finishes over the last two weeks, winning the shot put, discus throw and hammer throw at the Lloyd Sigler Spring Meet.
