York senior Grant Dell was honored as the CAC Athlete of the Week after taking third individually and leading the Spartans to a second-place team finish among 28 teams at the DeSales Invitational. Dell raced to third place out of 268 competitors with a time of 26:11.5, good for an average mile of 5:17. The Spartans finished with 45 total team points, just six points back of team champion Messiah.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

Christopher Newport is ranked No. 9 in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Rankings ... Six CAC teams competed last week, while Mary Washington, Marymount, Salisbury, and Wesley were idle ... CNU's Daniel Cretney led the Captains to a victory in the 8k race during the CNU Invitational on Saturday at Lee Hall Mansion. On an individual level, he finished second overall - and first among Division III competitors - with a time of 26:00.0. That clocking was 31 seconds faster than the next closest D3 runner. Guided by Cretney's efforts, the Captains eventually placed four runners in the top-10 and picked up a victory with 21 total points ... Frostburg State junior Robert Romano led the Bobcats to a 12th-place finish out of 28 teams at the DeSales Invitational. He was the top Bobcat finisher, taking 26th of 271 runners in 27:12.4 ... Southern Virginia sophomore Mike Myers recorded an 8K time of 26:55.95 at the Greensboro Hagan Stone Classic, his fastest 8K of the year to place first in his division and top-10 across all divisions.
