YORK, Pa. -- Christopher Newport senior Rachael Shiflett, York senior Carleigh Ruleman, and Salisbury sophomore Shannon Powell were named the CAC Softball Players of the Week for April 3, 2017.

Christopher Newport senior Rachael Shiflett secured CAC Player of the Week honors after batting .714 (10-for-14) in CAC doubleheader sweeps over York and Penn State Harrisburg this past weekend. Shiflett's seventh-inning single in game two against York brought home the winning run, capping a five-run comeback by the Captains in an 8-7 victory. She also scored four times, drove in three runs, and stole two bases for the week.

York senior Carleigh Ruleman was named the CAC Co-Player of the Week after hitting five home runs with 12 RBIs and 11 runs scored in a 5-3 week for the Spartans. Ruleman hit .435 (10-for-23) with at least one hit and one RBI in seven of the eight games. Her top performance of the week came in game two of a twinbill sweep of Eastern, as she went 3-for-4 with three RBIs, a home run, a double, and a run scored in an 8-3 victory. Ruleman had a three-game stretch in which she hit a home run, and also drew five walks and posted a 1.217 slugging percentage for the week.

Salisbury sophomore Shannon Powell grabbed CAC Pitcher of the Week honors after posting a 3-0 record with a 1.17 ERA in three starts and two complete-game outings. Powell registered wins over Stevenson, Southern Virginia, and Frostburg State, totaling 11 strikeouts and walking none in her 18 innings of work.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

Christopher Newport is receiving votes in the NFCA March 29 national rankings ... CNU senior Tara Heatwole won two games in three appearances over the weekend for the Captains. She pitched all five innings in beating Penn State Harrisburg, and also earned a win in relief vs. York ... Frostburg State senior Hannah Tavik hit .538 (7-for-13) with five runs, two RBIs and two doubles as she helped the Bobcats to a 3-1 record. In the circle, she also tossed a one-hit shutout of Wesley with four strikeouts. In a split with Salisbury, Tavik notched three hits and became Frostburg State's career leader with 201 hits ...  Mary Washington junior Mikie Williams had four hits in eight at-bats as UMW won three of four CAC contests this week. She notched a three-run homer in an 8-0 win over Penn State Harrisburg, and added a hit in each game as UMW split with York ... Salisbury junior Kristen Yanarella was a force for the Sea Gulls offensively in a 5-1 week, reaching base at a .643 clip, while hitting .545 with three extra-base hits. Yanarella was good for two doubles and her first home run of the year for a 1.000 slugging percentage this week. She drove in five and scored four times ... Southern Virginia freshman Mykayla Johnson recorded six RBIs and smashed two homers and a triple ... Wesley sophomore Megan DiRubbio notched seven hits on the week, including going 6-for-7 in the doubleheader against Southern Virginia. DiRubbio currently leads the CAC in on-base percentage (.559) and is tied for second in hitting with a .500 batting average. Lindsay Siok went 2-1 on the mound for the Wolverines, picking up two wins in a doubleheader sweep over Southern Virginia. Siok faced two batters over the minimum, struck out six and retired the first 11 batters she faced in the first game against Southern Virginia. Siok ranks second in the CAC in wins with 10 ... York's Carleigh Ruleman leads the CAC in home runs with eight and is tied for fifth in the league in RBIs. For the season, Ruleman is hitting .342 with eight home runs, 23 RBI, 22 runs scored, five doubles, 12 walks, six hit by pitches, a .740 slugging percentage and a .462 on-base percentage.
