Mary Washington Freshman Rachel Summers Receives Women's Tennis Weekly Award

YORK, Pa. -- Mary Washington freshman Rachel Summers secured CAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week honors for April 4, 2017.

Mary Washington freshman Rachel Summers secured CAC Player of the Week honors after going 3-0 in both singles and doubles last weekend, including the match-clinching point in a 5-4 upset win over No. 11 Washington & Lee. Summers and the 17th-ranked Eagles topped Southern Virginia, No. 35 TCNJ, Frostburg State, and Washington & Lee. In singles, Summers won at No. 3 singles over Southern Virginia and No. 4 singles against TCNJ and Washington & Lee. She also teamed with Ashley Barrow to gain a win at No. 1 doubles against Southern Virginia and at No. 2 against TCNJ and Washington & Lee.

In the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings, Mary Washington is No. 17 and Christopher Newport is No. 24 ... In the ITA regional rankings, UMW is No. 6, CNU is No. 7, and Salisbury is No. 13 ... In the ITA regional singles rankings, UMW's Kait Brogan is No. 10 and Taylor Diffley is No. 20, CNU's McKinney Harwood is No. 16 and Johanna Ranta-aho is No. 18, and Salisbury's Annika Kezman is No. 25 ... CNU's Johanna Ranta-aho won all six of her matches in a 2-1 week for the Captains, who defeated St. Mary's 9-0, York 8-1, and fell to No. 15 Johns Hopkins 5-4 ... Marissa Romanek helped St. Mary's to its first CAC win of the season as Romanek dropped only one game in her straight-set win over Frostburg State's Kennedy Logsdon at No. 2 singles. She then teamed up with Melissa Barall for an 8-2 victory at No. 1 doubles ... Salisbury freshman Julia Kwedi went 5-1 in three CAC matches last week, with a perfect mark in singles play and stumbling just once in doubles ...
