Salisbury University sophomore Chelsea Tavik entered the shot put competition at the 2011 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships seeded 17th out of 24 competitors. Once she stepped into the circle on Friday night Tavik proved that those seeds don't mean a whole lot as she crushed her own school record en route to a third-place finish and the first All-American honor of her career.

The Maryland Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (MACDA) recently released its three annual post-graduate scholarship award winners, and Tollett was one of the recipients.

Due to lightning, the 2011 Capital Athletic Confeference Track and Field Championships have been suspended and are schedule to resume on Sunday, April 17. The 5,000-meter run and the men's discus are slated to commence at 10:00 am. The 5k will be followed by the 4x400 relay, the final event of the championships.

Coming out of high school, Laura Rowlands had a decision to make. The two-sport star at Dover wasn't sure if she would pursue diving or track at the next level. After all, she attracted a fair amount of interest in both sports. But if her collegiate freshman season is any indicator, Rowlands absolutely made the right choice when she selected York College, where she could jump for the track team and study nursing -- the real key part of her decision.

Wesley sophomore RACHELLE ALLEN and York freshman LAURA ROWLANDS were selected as the CAC Women’s Track & Field Athletes of the Week for April 5, 2011. Allen was picked as the CAC Women’s Track Athlete of the Week after setting two school records at the Danny Curran Invitational at Widener University. Allen placed sixth overall in the 100-meter dash in a school-record time of 13.16, then contributed to a SR performance in the 4x100 relay (51.91). Allen also posted a third-place finish in the long jump (94.86m). Rowlands was named the CAC Women’s Field Athlete of the Week for the second-straight week after winning three jumping events and contributing to the victorious 4x100 relay team (51.62). The York newcomer set a stadium record in the triple jump (11.07m) and added wins in the long jump (5.08m) and a high jump (tied for 1st, 1.55m).

The York College men's track & field team put together a tremendous performance Saturday as they won their own Green & White Invitational, recording 202 points on the day. The Spartans had a strong showing as they continue to prepare for the Capital Athletic Conference Championships, which are slated to take place at York, on Saturday, April 16.

Mary Washington and Salisbury have long been the standard bearers for Capital Athletic Conference track & field. The two schools have combined to win 35 of the 37 men’s and women’s team championships in CAC history. UMW won the first 16 CAC women’s titles before Salisbury captured the crown for the first time last year. On the men’s side, Salisbury’s 2010 championship was its seventh straight and 12th since 1994 while UMW has won six championships. York is the only other member to win a CAC men’s track and field title – in the first two years of the CAC (1991-92).

Sophomore Chelsea Tavik got word late Sunday night that she has qualified to compete in the women's shot put competition at the meet held this Friday and Saturday at Capital University in Columbus, Ohio.

After a five-year absence, Stevenson University announced on Wednesday that it is bringing back track and field as an intercollegiate sport, raising the number of NCAA Division III sports offered by the school to 20. The University will sponsor indoor track and field for men and women beginning with the 2010-11 season with the goal of also adding men's and women's outdoor track in the spring.
