FREDERICKBURG, Va. -- Frostburg State senior Kayla Truesdel and Christopher Newport senior Hannah Shoemaker earned CAC Track & Field Athlete of the Week honors for March 6, 2018.

Frostburg State senior Kayla Truesdel earned CAC Track Athlete of the Week accolades for the second time this season after securing a trio of gold medals at the ECAC Indoor Championships. Truesdel took home two individual titles, defending her 60-meter dash crown with a season-best time of 7.78 seconds and also posting a school-record time of 25.20 en route to first place in the 200 meters. She earned her third gold medal alongside sophomore Keileen Estrada, senior Destiny Logan and first-year Maddison Watson in the 4x400-meter relay. The foursome raced to a school-record 3:56.43, good for the 26th-best time in Division III this season. Truesdel's time in the 60 ranks 23rd nationally. She will compete in the 200 meters at this weekend's NCAA Indoor Championships. 

Field Athlete of the Week

Christopher Newport senior Hannah Shoemaker was selected as the CAC Field Athlete of the Week for the third time this indoor season after moving up to 10th in the nation in the shot put with a victory at the Tufts Final Qualifier on Saturday. Shoemaker established a new personal record with a 13.93-meter effort. That not only ranks 10th on the national performance list this year, but it also stands as the third-best effort in CNU history. She will compete in the shot put at the NCAA Indoor Championships this weekend.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

Four CAC athletes have qualified for the 2018 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships, set for March 9-10 in Birmingham, Ala. ... Frostburg State's Kayla Truesdel (200m), Salisbury's Jamie Farley (400m), Penn State Harrisburg's Ashley Williams (60h) and Christopher Newport's Hannah Shoemaker (Shot Put) earned spots at the national championships ... Kyleigh Dumas broke one of 10 Salisbury school records this past weekend and also earned a first-place victory in the pole vault. Dumas cleared the bar at a height of 11' 7.75" to earn the win. Her vault breaks the record she previously set earlier this season of 11' 3.75". Jamie Farley broke school records in the 400 and 200-meter dashes for the Sea Gulls. Farley posted a time of 57.11 seconds to not only earn a first-place finish in the 400-meter dash, but also breaks the mark she set earlier this season of 57.63 seconds. Then in the 200-meter dash Farley garnered a second-place finish posting a mark of 25.51 seconds. Her time broke the previous record of 25.74, which she posted just last week ... Southern Virginia freshman Abigail Kinoshita set a school record for the 400 meters with a time of 1:07.62 to take third at the Roanoke Qualifier. Freshman Mesi Havea took second in the shot put with a toss of 11.70 meters for the Knights.
