Marymount University inducted its eighth Athletics Hall of Fame class on Saturday, May 11. Four former Saints standouts were enshrined, including women’s basketball’s Randi Jones, men’s soccer’s Justin Kessler, women’s soccer’s Meggan Breen Olek and golf’s Tony Smith.

Randi Jones ’06, Women’s Basketball

The next in the long line of prolific women’s basketball players, Randi Jones is the 10th player in program history to be inducted into the Marymount Athletics Hall of Fame. 

Jones is one of 11 Saints to earn All-America accolades, collecting honorable mention honors as a senior.  She was also named Capital Athletic Conference Player of the Year, CAC Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year, First Team All-CAC, First Team VaSID All-State and Second Team D3Hoops.com All-Region as well as leading MU to its third NCAA Tournament appearance during her tenure.

Also a First Team All-CAC performer as a junior, Jones helped the Saints to the NCAA Elite Eight as a sophomore and Sweet 16 as a freshman.  She was named CAC All-Academic each of her four years at Marymount. 

For her career, Jones scored 1,210 points, grabbed 514 rebounds, dished out 334 assists and collected 166 steals.  She is currently ranked 8th all-time in career assists, 13th in scoring, 20th in steals and 25th in rebounding.

Justin Kessler ’06, Men’s Soccer

The most productive and decorated player in program history, Justin Kessler is the second men’s soccer player to be inducted into the Marymount Athletics Hall of Fame. 

Kessler was a three-time First Team All-Capital Athletic Conference performer during his sophomore, junior and senior seasons. He also garnered Third Team All-South Atlantic Region honors as a junior and First Team All-South Atlantic Region to go along with First Team VaSID All-State accolades as a senior.

With 26 goals and 15 assists for 67 points, Kessler is the program leader in goals scored and points.  He currently ranks second all-time in assists after finishing his career in the top spot. 

Meggan Breen Olek  ’91, Women’s Soccer

Playing in the pre-Capital Athletic Conference era, Meggan Breen remains one of the top players in program history and is the third inductee from the women’s soccer team into the Marymount Athletics Hall of Fame.

Winning 36 games during her four year tenure, the second highest win total in a four-year span in program history, Breen scored 11 goals to go with 11 assists for 33 points despite playing primarily as a defender.  She currently ranks tied for 8th all-time in career assists and 13th all-time in career points. 

Breen was named Second Team All-Region as a sophomore in 1988 after leading the Saints to their best season in program history.  Compiling a 14-2-1 record, MU posted seven shutouts with Breen on the backline.

Tony Smith ’00, Golf

Playing in an era before the Capital Athletic Conference sponsored the sport, Tony Smith is the first men’s golf inductee in the Marymount Athletics Hall of Fame. 

During his playing days, Smith was twice named All-State after finishing in the top-18 at the Virginia Intercollegiate Tournament.  At the time of graduation, he held the record for the lowest round and lowest team score as well as three of the five best individual and team scores.

Currently, Smith is still tied for the third best individual round with a 72 and tied for fifth for the lowest team score with a 309.
