Salisbury's Luke Campbell Named CAC Male Athlete of the Year

YORK, Pa. – Salisbury University senior track & field standout Luke Campbell (Brunswick, Md./Brunswick) was honored by the Capital Athletic Conference athletic directors as the 2015-16 Male Athlete of the Year. Campbell is the inaugural recipient of the award.

The Male Athlete of the Year Award is presented to the CAC student-athlete who garnered superior athletic recognition and achievement, either individually or in conjunction with his team.

Campbell added four national championships to his already-impressive resume in 2015-16, capturing a pair of titles at both the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Championship meets. At the indoor national meet, Campbell won the 60-meter hurdles and anchored the winning 4x400-meter relay. At the outdoor championships, he raced to gold in the 110-meter hurdles and 400-meter hurdles.

He was honored as the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association (USTFCCCA) NCAA Division III Men's National Track Athlete of the Year and the Mideast Region Athlete of the Year for the outdoor campaign. He concluded his illustrious career with 11 national titles (10 individual, 1 relay) among the indoor and outdoor seasons, the most national championships for a male in Division III history.

Campbell also collected seven CAC championships in 2015-16, securing indoor gold in the 60-meter hurdles, 400 meters, and 4x400 relay. At the outdoor conference meet, he won the 110 hurdles, 400 hurdles, 4x400 relay and 4x100 relay. He was named the CAC Outdoor Track & Field Athlete of the Year, marking the third straight year he has secured the honor. When including the indoor seasons, Campbell amassed five CAC Athlete of the Year awards throughout his career.

Campbell’s legacy will continue on in the CAC and national record books. He holds the fastest time in Division III history in the 60-meter hurdles, the second-fastest time in Division III history in 110-meter hurdles, and the fourth-fastest time in Division III history in 400-meter hurdles. He also holds 12 CAC records between the indoor and outdoor seasons, and collected 24 All-CAC first team and two All-CAC second team honors in his career.
