Seven CAC Schools Ranked in Final Learfield Directors' Cup Standings; Christopher Newport Finishes 14th

Christopher Newport, which recently swept the Capital Athletic Conference Commissioner’s Cup awards, finished 14th in the final 2016-17 Learfield Division III Directors Cup standings, announced Thursday, to headline the seven CAC institutions ranked in the final standings. 

The Captains totaled 624 points to place 14th, while Salisbury placed 42nd (396.5 points) and Mary Washington finished 65th (297 points). 

York (108th/185 pts), Wesley (152nd/129.5 pts), Marymount (226th/64 pts) and Frostburg State (277th/37 pts) also earned spots in the Learfield standings. 

The Learfield Sports Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today.  Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 18 sports during NCAA Div. III Championships - nine men's and nine women's sports.

NCAA Division III includes approximately 450 member institutions in 43 conferences.  A total of 325 Division III institutions scored Learfield Directors' Cup points this year.
