CAC Players of the Week - Oct. 23

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. --- The fall golf season is winding down with only a few tournaments left on the slate, while the swimming campaign is just getting started with four of the five CAC teams opening up their seasons this past weekend. This week's CAC weekly awards were given to Carson Castelli of Christopher Newport men's golf, Erica Whitehouse of Christopher Newport women's golf, Jeffrey Leckrone of Mary Washington men's swimming, and Justine Wantz of York women's swimming.

CAC Players of the Week

Oct. 15 - 21

MEN'S GOLF

Carson Castelli | Christopher Newport | Fr. 

Greensboro, N.C. | Westchester Country Day School

Castelli finished in fourth place overall at the VSGA Intercollegiate Championship, while leading the Captains to a fourth-place finish as a team. Castelli finished the 36-hole tournament with a two-over par 146 (72-74), besting his season-low tournament scoring mark by 12 strokes. He helped CNU post a 609 (302-307) to finish at 33-over.

WOMEN'S GOLF

Erica Whitehouse | Christopher Newport | So. 

Mechanicsville, Va. | Atlee

Whitehouse tied for second at the highly-competitive Golfweek DIII Fall Invitational in Destin, Fla., carding three straight 75's to finish with a nine-over par 225. She led the Captains to a tied for 10th on the team leaderboard, shattering the program scoring record for a 54-hole tournament. Whitehouse tied for second among the 93-player field with 35 pars, while also tying for sixth with 6 birdies.

MEN'S SWIMMING

Jeff Leckrone | Mary Washington | Sr. 

Earlysville, Va. | Albemarle

Leckrone won three individual races as Mary Washington topped Widener, Franklin & Marshall, and York on Saturday. Leckrone, who advanced to last year's NCAA Championships, took first in the 100 yard breaststroke at 57.43, the 200 yard breaststroke at 2:07.39 and the 200 yard IM at 1:57.83. All three times are tops in the CAC and rank among the top in Division III so far this season. His 100 and 200 breaststroke times are third and fourth nationally, while his 200 IM time is 13th.

WOMEN'S SWIMMING

Justine Wantz | York | Jr. 

Walkersville, Md. | Walkersville

Wantz won the 100 and 200 backstrokes in the Spartans' season opener at the Franklin & Marshall Fall Quad meet on Saturday. The defending CAC champion in the 100 and 200 backstroke events, she touched first in both events with times of 59.46 in the 100 and 2:09.56 in the 200. Her times in the 100 and 200 rank atop the CAC and 10th and 11th nationally, respectively, so far this season.
