Frostburg State Senior Alexandra Darrow and Salisbury Junior Annah Brittingham Nab CAC Field Hockey Weekly Awards

YORK, Pa. -- Frostburg State senior Alexandra Darrow and Salisbury junior Annah Brittingham were selected as the CAC Field Hockey Players of the Week for Sept. 14, 2015. 

Offensive Player of the Week

Frostburg State senior Alexandra Darrow was named the CAC Offensive Player of the Week after powering the Bobcats to a 3-0 week with seven goals and two assists including her second career hat trick in a 5-0 victory over Virginia Wesleyan. Darrow opened the week with two goals and an assist in a 4-2 triumph at Randolph-Macon, before recording a hat trick and one assist against Virginia Wesleyan. She added two scores in a 6-1 win over Eastern Mennonite to close out the week.

Salisbury junior Annah Brittingham was named the CAC Defensive Player of the Week after leading a Sea Gull defense that surrendered just one shot in a 1-0 victory over No. 17 Messiah. Brittingham played up in the midfield, and Salisbury allowed minimal offensive possession to the Falcons in the shutout victory.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE 

Salisbury is ranked No. 2 in the Penn Monto / National Field Hockey Coaches Association Poll, with Mary Washington (No. 15) and Christopher Newport (No. 16) also in the top 20 ... Christopher Newport and Wesley opened up CAC play on Saturday, with the Captains coming away with a 5-1 triumph in Dover, Del. ... Jenna Steele led No. 15 Mary Washington to a 1-1 week, scoring a career-high four goals in a 6-0 win over Bridgewater on Wednesday. Steele also picked up an assist, and moved into second place in career goals at UMW, surpassing the 50-goal mark and now stands with 53 for her career, just six behind all-time leader Jessica Morris. Her 128 career points ranks third in school history behind Morris and Caitlin Baker ... Hannah Miller scored the game's only goal in Salisbury's 1-0 win against No. 17 Messiah. The score was her first of the season, and first since the junior's freshman year ... Wesley senior goalkeeper Kayla Fromal made a career-high 19 saves against Rowan on Wednesday and followed up that performance with an 18-save effort on Saturday morning against CNU. Fromal leads the CAC in saves by a large margin (62), nearly doubling the next goaltender in the ranks ... Freshman Lindsay Nye scored twice to power York to a 4-0 non-conference win on Saturday. Nye is York's second leading scorer with eight points on four goals.
