York Sophomore Caitlin Rankin and Frostburg State Sophomore Rhianna Lapen Named CAC Women's Soccer Players of the Week

YORK, Pa. -- York sophomore Caitlin Rankin and Frostburg State sophomore Rhianna Lapen were named the CAC Women's Soccer Players of the Week for Oct. 17, 2016.

York sophomore Caitlin Rankin was tabbed as the CAC Offensive Player of the Week after tallying a career-high two goals in the Spartans' 4-1 victory over Southern Virginia on Saturday. Rankin scored the game's first two goals, including what would prove to be the game-winner in the 12th minute, leading the Spartans to their second CAC win of the season.

Frostburg State sophomore Rhianna Lapen earned CAC Defensive Player of the Week honors after collecting a pair of shutouts in net last week against York and Salisbury. Lapen made one save against York and registered six stops vs. Salisbury.

Christopher Newport is ranked No. 21 in the Oct. 11 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) rankings ... CNU downed St. Mary's last Wednesday in a battle for first place. CNU is the lone unbeaten in conference play at 6-0, with St. Mary's in second place at 5-1. Mary Washington and Frostburg State are both 4-2 in the CAC, while Salisbury and Penn State Harrisburg have .500 records at 3-3 ... Two weeks remain in the CAC regular season ... CNU went 2-0 last week with wins over St. Mary's and Mary Washington. Goalkeeper Carly Maglio totaled nine saves in the two wins. Maglio and the CNU defense are having one of the best seasons in program history, with only five goals allowed in 1170 minutes played. Maglio has eight shutouts this season, ranking the fourth most in program history. She leads the league in both save percentage (.904) and goals-against average (0.38). The CNU defense has allowed just 6.7 shots per game ... Mary Washington split its two games this week, with sophomore Christina Carlston gaining the eventual game-winning goal against Southern Virginia ... Marymount went 1-1 last week with 4-0 loss to Salisbury and a 2-1 win over Penn State Harrisburg. Goalkeeper Sydney Schultz totaled 11 saves in the two contests with a .846 save % ... Penn State Harrisburg's Kristin Stark scored twice in a 1-1 week for the Lions ... From her defensive position, Lane Brooks helped St. Mary's to a 1-1 week as Brooks and the Seahawk defense kept Wesley to just nine shots (only two on goal). She contributed offensively as well, scoring her first goal as a Seahawk in the 3-0 win at Wesley ... Salisbury's Lindsey Andonian had a career high three points vs. Marymount with a goal and an assist. She scored in the opening 11 seconds for the Sea Gulls in a 4-0 win over the Saints.
