FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- Christopher Newport junior Seth Woodard and Wesley senior Alex Marrs were selected as the CAC Baseball Players of the Week for April 9, 2018.

Christopher Newport junior Seth Woodard claimed CAC Player of the Week honors for the third time this year after recording three multi-hit games in a 3-0 week for the Captains as they improved to 25-4 with a 17-game winning streak. Woodard went 7-for-12 (.583) at the plate with six RBIs and eight runs scored in victories over Southern Virginia and Marymount. Three of his seven hits went for extra bases, including a pair of home runs. Woodard reached base 12 times in 17 plate appearances for an on-base percentage of .706 and posted a 1.167 slugging percentage. He drove in the game-tying run in the bottom of the ninth inning against Marymount, setting up a game-winning pinch-hit walk-off.  Against Southern Virginia, he reached base in all five plate appearances (3-for-3 with two walks) and scored five times in the game, matching the CNU program record for runs in a single game.

Wesley senior Alex Marrs earned CAC Pitcher of the Week accolades after picking up a win and a save in three appearances last week. Marrs posted a 0.00 ERA with 13 strikeouts and just four hits allowed in 11.1 innings of work on the mound. He secured a complete-game three-hit shutout win with 10 strikeouts in Wesley's 6-0 win over Penn State Harrisburg on Thursday, before earning the save in the Wolverines' 7-6 victory over York in the first game of a doubleheader on Sunday.

In the D3baseball.com week 6 rankings, Christopher Newport is No. 7 and Frostburg State is No. 21 and Salisbury is receiving votes ... In the ABCA/Collegiate Baseball Poll, Christopher Newport is No. 5 while Frostburg State and Salisbury are receiving votes ... Frostburg State senior Kyle Burger hit .450 on the week with nine hits, six runs, six RBI and three stolen bases. In a sweep of Wesley, Burger finished 7-of-12 with five RBI and four runs scored ... Sophomore Garrett Lyons batted .417 for Mary Washington in three games this week, with five hits in 12 at bats ... Marymount freshman Casey Baker paced the Saint offense this past week with seven RBIs and six runs on six hits and a home run. Ryan Scheufele has had a career year on the mound for Marymount, still maintaining a perfect 0.00 earned-run average through 17 innings pitched. As a relief pitcher, he saw time in three games this past week for a total of five innings, giving up six hits while striking out eight and no earned runs. For the year, his 17 innings have seen just 11 hits and 16 strikeouts ... Penn State Harrisburg freshman Ryan McSorley helped the Lions go 4-1 in CAC play last week. McSorley registered four hits, five runs scored, two doubles and six RBIs from the leadoff spot ... Lucas Kraft paced St. Mary's at the plate as Kraft hit .538, collecting seven hits and extending his hit streak to four straight. He notched a season-best three hits twice while scoring twice and driving in a run in the win over Mary Washington. Jackson Edelman posted St. Mary's lone win on the mound, throwing 8.0 innings in the win over Mary Washington. He allowed six runs (five earned) on 10 hits while striking out two with one walk in picking up his fourth win of the season ... Salisbury sophomore Justin Meekins hit .412 with a home run, five RBIs, and eight stolen bases in a 4-0 week for the Sea Gulls. He stole six bases in a non-conference victory over Stevenson ... Salisbury senior Connor Reeves earned a three-inning save against Marymount on Thursday afternoon, then followed it up by getting the start and earning the win over St. Mary's the following day. Reeves gave up only two hits and struck out four batters en route to his conference-leading seventh win of the season ... Southern Virginia sophomore Cole Critchfield hit .583 with six RBIs, six runs scored a home run and a double in a 2-1 week for the Knights. He managed at least two hits and two RBIs in each game. Senior pitcher Tayler Peterson earned his third straight CAC win, allowing just two earned runs with six strikeouts in a 6-3 win over York ... Wesley senior Chris Seibert batted .611 (11-for-18) with two home runs, seven RBIs and six runs scored in Wesley's six games last week. Seibert also drew 10 walks to reach base at a .767 mark on the week. Against Penn State Harrisburg, Seibert became Wesley's all-time home run leader with his 22nd home run of his career.
