FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- Christopher Newport's Kurt Waller & Southern Virginia's Derek Blasko were selected as CAC Men's Track & Field Athletes of the Week for April 23, 2019.

Kurt Waller jumped up the national leaderboard and posted the top time in the CAC in a pair of events during the Captains Classic on Saturday. In the 400, he won the race in 48.28, which stands as the 12th-best clocking in the NCAA this year. He also added a time of 21.78 in the 200. That places him eighth on the program?s all-time performance list and ranks 31st in the country. Both of those clockings also lead the conference by nearly half a second this season. This is the third time this season Waller has earned CAC athlete of the week honors.

Derek Blasko finished second overall but first among college athletes in the javelin (52.88) and third in the shot put (14.58m) this past weekend at the Captains Classic. This marks the fourth time this season Blasko has collected CAC weekly honors.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

Salisbury's Alex Hall turned in a solid performance at the Captains' Classic over the weekend earning two top-five finishes in the field events. In the pole vault Hall placed second overall in the event clearing the bar at a height of 10' 11.75." Then in the javelin Hall rounded out his afternoon with a fifth-place finish posting a toss of 115' .5"...Salisbury's Conner Masteran ran into the record books over the weekend at the Captains' Classic as he posted a new school record in the 3,000-meter run. Masteran crossed the finish line in a time of 8:47.76 to place second but more importantly break the previous mark in the event set last season by Michael Weber, who posted a time of 8:52.26...York's Trevor Joseph finished second in the pole vault at the York College Twilight Meet on Wednesday in York. Joseph cleared a best height of 3.68 meters in the event...York's Connor Hurst had a great meet in the Spartans own Twilight Invitational on Wednesday afternoon. Hurst won the 800 meter run in a time of 1:58.68 to garner ten team points for the Green and White. ...Frostburg State's Robert Romano earned an individual victory in his fifth-straight outdoor meet by winning the 5,000-meter run at the Mason-Dixon Invitational at Gettysburg ... His time of 15:26.10 bested the second-place finisher by nearly a minute...Southern Virginia's Daniel de la Cruz came away from the Captains Classic with the win in the 400m hurdles with a time of 55.66. He is currently in 22nd in Division III in the event.
