FREDERICKBURG, Va. -- Christopher Newport senior Grayson Reid and York senior Alex Smith were selected as the CAC Men's Cross Country Co-Athletes of the Week for Oct. 17, 2017.

Christopher Newport senior Grayson Reid was named the CAC Co-Athlete of the Week after leading the ninth-ranked Captains to a seventh-place team finish at the Cowbell Classic at Principia College. In a field featuring 17 nationally-ranked programs, Reid placed 14th in a field of 354 runners with an 8k time of 25:28.47. His efforts helped CNU top 10 of the nationally-ranked programs in the field, including three top-15 squads (No. 10 Calvin, No. 13 Wisconsin Eau-Claire, and No. 15 Wartburg).

York senior Alex Smith was named the CAC Co-Athlete of the Week after leading the Spartans to a third-place finish at the Inter-Regional Border Battle hosted by Rowan. Smith was York's top finisher in 14th place with a personal-best time of 25:15.3 over the 8k course. His efforts helped the Spartans defeat four nationally-ranked teams among the 28 competing squads (No. 17 Johns Hopkins, No. 23 Rowan, No. 24 Rhodes, No. 34 Dickinson).

Christopher Newport is ranked No. 9 in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Rankings ... Last week's competition served as the final tune-up for CAC squads for the 2017 CAC Cross Country Championships ... The CAC Championships will be hosted by Christopher Newport at Lee Hall Mansion in Newport News, Va. The women's 6k is set for 11 a.m., followed by the men's 8k at noon ... Frostburg State junior Robert Romano was the Bobcats' top finisher at the Hood College Open. He took third overall in the standings, was the meet's second scoring finisher and earned medalist honors after posting a time of 26.53.7 ...Sophomore Jeff Gibson was Mary Washington's top finisher at the Oberlin College Inter Regional Rumble on Saturday, finishing 11th overall at 25:42. The Eagles placed 13th in the team standings ... Salisbury sophomore Branson Oduor led the Sea Gulls at the Inter-Regional Border Battle at Rowan University, garnering a top-20 finish, placing 17th overall. Oduor crossed the finish line in a time of 25:20.1. It is his fourth top-20 finish of the season ... Southern Virginia freshman Colter May placed 22nd at the 25-team Gettysburg Invitational with a personal-best 8k time of 26:47.5. Helped the team to a seventh-place finish ... Wesley freshman William Brighton Dawson finished the 8k at the Delaware State Alumni Invitational in eighth place with a time of 28:29.9. He ran an average mile time of 5:44.
