YORK, Pa. -- Frostburg State swept this week's CAC honors as junior Sam Gatton and senior Hannah Tavik were named the CAC Softball Players of the Week for April 10, 2017.

Frostburg State junior Sam Gatton collected CAC Player of the Week accolades after hitting .563 (9-for-16) with three home runs in a 6-0 week for the Bobcats, who are now tied for first place in the conference standings. Gatton notched at least one hit and one run scored in all five contests in which she appeared. She totaled 10 runs scored, nine RBIs, a triple, a double and three stolen bases, and registered a slugging percentage of 1.313 for the week. Her top performance came in game one of a sweep over Hood, as she went 3-for-4 with two home runs and six RBIs in a 7-2 victory.

Frostburg State senior Hannah Tavik earned CAC Pitcher of the Week honors after going 3-0 in the circle in three starts last week. Tavik struck out 15 batters in 17.0 innings and allowed just two earned runs for a 0.82 ERA in wins over Southern Virginia, Penn State Harrisburg, and Hood. She walked just two batters and surrendered 12 hits throughout the week.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

Christopher Newport is receiving votes in the NFCA Apr. 5 national rankings ... With just one week left in the CAC regular season, CNU (9-1 CAC) and Frostburg State (9-1 CAC) are tied atop the conference standings. The Captains and Bobcats will square off on the final day of the regular season, this Saturday, in Frostburg, Md. ... Salisbury (7-3 CAC) is currently in third place, with York (5-5 CAC) and Mary Washington (5-5 CAC) tied for fourth ... Liz Andrews posted big numbers for CNU in a 3-1 week, driving in five runs in a victory over Mary Washington while also scoring twice and recording a double and home run. She posted two hits and drove in a run in a victory at Salisbury as part of a doubleheader split with the Sea Gulls ... Freshman Hannah Bruns led Mary Washington with a .462 batting average on the week, with at least one hit in each game. She added a double and triple in a win over Wesley on Saturday ... Salisbury junior Rachael Milligan picked up two complete-game CAC victories in the past week, shutting out Wesley in a 1-0 victory and holding Christopher Newport in check for a 9-3 win on Saturday. Kristen Yanarella went 5-for-10 at the plate for the Sea Gulls, including 4-for-7 in the twinbill vs. CNU ... Southern Virginia freshman Madison Rigby had both RBIs in game two against Frostburg State. She went 2-for-4 at the plate in her two games played ... Wesley pitcher Lindsay Siok picked up three wins on the week with an ERA of 1.53 in six appearances. Siok leads the CAC with 13 wins and sits third in strikeouts with 70. Nina Marcano hit a three-run homer in Wesley's doubleheader split of Mary Washington on Saturday. Marcano also drove in five in the doubleheader. She leads the CAC in stolen bases (20) and is also in a tie for first in RBIs (37) ... York freshman pitcher Ginger Lewis picked up a trio of wins as the Spartans went 6-0 for the week. For the week, Lewis was 3-0 with a 1.84 ERA in 19 innings of work, striking out 17 and walking just two. For the season, Lewis is 8-7 with a 2.33 ERA in 102 innings of action. She has struck out 87 and walked just 24 as opponents are hitting .254 against her. Carleigh Ruleman had another monster week for the Spartans, hitting .529 with nine RBIs, three home runs, nine runs scored an a 1.118 slugging percentage. She leads the league in home runs and is third in RBIs. For the season, Ruleman is hitting .378 with 31 runs scored, 11 home runs, six doubles and a team-high 32 RBI. She owns an .811 slugging percentage while she also owns a .504 on-base percentage.
