Marymount Junior Leah Hurst Named CAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week

YORK, Pa. --  Marymount junior Leah Hurst was named the CAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week for Jan. 2, 2017.

Marymount junior Leah Hurst was named the CAC Player of the Week after posting an all-around week with averages of 10.0 points, 6.3 rebounds, 5.7 assists, 3.0 steals, and 1.3 blocks per game in a 3-0 week for the Saints. Before Christmas, Hurst helped the Saints past Shenandoah with seven points, a game-high five steals, two blocks, eight rebounds, and two assists. She later helped MU to wins over Lynchburg and Castleton at the Music City Classic in Nashville, Tenn. Against Lynchburg, she put up nine points, six rebounds, a game-high eight assists, one steal, and two more blocks. She then capped off her 2016 with another game-high seven assists against Castleton to go along with 14 points, three steals and five rebounds. Hurst is averaging a CAC-leading 5.5 assists per contest and ranks fourth in steals per game at 3.1.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

Christopher Newport and Mary Washington are ranked in both the WBCA and D3hoops.com national rankings. In both polls, CNU is ranked No. 10 and UMW is ranked No. 14. Marymount is receiving votes in the D3hoops.com poll ... UMW (11-0, 4-0 CAC) and CNU (11-0, 4-0 CAC) remain unbeaten on the year ... CAC play picks up again on Wednesday ... Sam Porter helped lead CNU to a pair of non-conference wins over Virginia Wesleyan and Newport News Apprentice, averaging 13.5 points, 8.0 rebounds and 6.0 steals per game ... Frostburg State returns to action this afternoon when it travels to Eastern Mennonite at 3:00 p.m. ... Junior guard Kendall Parker led Mary Washington to a pair of wins at the Land of Magic Classic in Orlando, Fla. last week. The junior guard averaged 20.5 points per game, as the Eagles topped Brooklyn College and Gwynedd Mercy College. She netted 22 points on 8-of-16 shooting, including 5-of-9 three-pointers, as the Eagles topped Brooklyn, 71-49, and was the catalyst with 19 points as the Eagles pulled away from Gwynedd Mercy, 70-44. For the week, she shot 48.3% from the field (14-29), making 8-of-17 three pointers and 5-of-5 free throws ... Nina Haller paced St. Mary's down at the Puerto Rico Clasico, leading the Seahawks in rebounding against Illinois College and in scoring against Grove City ... Southern Virginia freshman Katee Hubert posted her first career double-double in the Knights' win over Mary Baldwin with 17 points and 12 rebounds. She also recorded three steals in the victory ... York junior Sam Mocniak was named the MVP of the CUNY Coaches vs. Cancer Tournament as York won the tournament title. Teammate Katie McGowan also earned All-Tournament team honors. The tournament championship was the first since last November for the Spartans.

Brionna Johnson averaged 13.0 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 2.0 assists in three games this week helping Wesley to a pair of victories. The senior forward netted 10 points, including the game-winning putback with 1.4 seconds remaining to give Wesley a two-point win over Widener University in the team's season opener.
