Salisbury Leads CAC With 12th-Place Finish In 2012-13 Learfield Sports Directors' Cup Final Standings

Salisbury scored the second-highest point total nationally during the spring season and moved up to 12th place in the final 2012-13 Learfield Sports Directors' Cup Standings.

Salisbury entered the spring season with 297 points accumulated during the fall and winter season and added 437.25 in six spring sports to finish the year with a CAC-best 683.75 points.

The spring sports total, which included a national championship in women's lacrosse and a third-place finishes in softball and men's lacrosse, was second to only Williams (488 points) and one of just four NCAA Division III institutions to score over 400 points during the spring season.

The Learfield Sports Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today.  Points are awarded based on each institutional's finish in up to 18 sports - nine women's and nine men's.

Williams won the 2012-13 Learfield Sports Directors' Cup for the 16th time in the last 18 years with 1,273.75 points.  The Ephs were the only school to score points in 18 sports and score over 1,000 points.

Rounding out the top five in the final standings were Emory (986.50), Middlebury (941.75), Wisconsin-Whitewater (895.00) and Washington (Mo.) University (859.50).

CNU, competing in its final season as a full member of the USA South Athletic Conference, placed 29th overall in the final standings with 454.50 points.  Penn State Harrisburg, in its last year as a member of the North East Athletic Conference, won the conference baseball title and tied Frostburg State in 291st place with 25 points.

Southern Virginia, which will also join the CAC this summer and begin full competition in the fall, is not eligible for Learfield Sports Directors' Cup until it completes its provisional years of membership and becomes a full member of NCAA Division III.
