Mary Washington freshman Jeff Gibson earned CAC Track Athlete of the Week accolades for the second time this year after breaking the school record in the 5,000 meters at the George Mason Spring Invitational. Gibson crossed the line in 14:45.77 to take fourth place among 52 finishers in what was primarily a Division I event. His time ranks atop the CAC by nearly eight seconds and is 11th nationally.

Christopher Newport senior Dominique Torres was named the CAC Field Athlete of the Week for the second time this year after moving to fourth in the nation in the triple jump with his performance at the George Mason Spring Invitational on Saturday. He placed third overall and first among Division III competitors with a 14.53-meter leap. Not only does that distance rank fourth in the NCAA this year, but it also stands as the top effort in the CAC by over two feet. It ranks first in the South / Southeast Region as well.

Seven of the eight CAC track & field teams competed last week ... The CAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships are less than two weeks away, set for April 21-22 hosted by Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Va. ... Christopher Newport's Ryan Scott moved into the top-15 nationally in the 200 during the George Mason Spring Invitational, finishing first among Division III competitors and 11th overall with a time of 21.82. That clocking currently ranks 15th in the NCAA and first in the CAC. He also posted the top time among Division III runners in the 100 at GMU after finishing in 10.94 ... Frostburg State senior thrower J.R. Lowery again had another impressive afternoon at the Messiah Invitational. He won the shot put with an ECAC distance of 16.34 meters and took second in the hammer throw with an ECAC toss of 48.96 meters ... Mary Washington freshman David Danek was eighth in the high jump at the George Mason Invitational on Saturday, with a leap of 1.92 meters in the predominantly Division I meet ... Penn State Harrisburg sophomore Jalil Clayton placed first in a trio of events at the Messiah Track & Field Invitational, winning the 110 hurdles (14.52), 400 hurdles (56.38), and high jump (1.93m) ... Salisbury competed at the Delaware Open. Will Fountain won the pole vault at 13' 5.25", while Emmanuel Porquin placed first in the 1,500 meters at 4:12.72 ... Wesley also competed at the Delaware Open. Daquay Harris-Winbush won the long jump, leaping 6.96 meters (22-10). Harris-Winbush's leap is tops in the Mideast Region. Johnny Crenshaw was part of the first place 4x100-meter relay (42.09) and also placed fourth in the 100-meter dash (10.85) and fifth in the 200-meter dash (22.39). Crenshaw's 100 time ranks second in the Mideast Region in the event.
