FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- ​Salisbury's Shea McCloskey & CNU's Zoe Stauffer were honored as the Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) Track & Field Athletes of the Week on April 23, 2019.

Salisbury junior Shea McCloskey turned in a solid outing at the Captains' Classic as she earned an individual victory and team victory. In the 800-meter run McCloskey ran to victory behind a time of 2:16.85. McCloskey was also part of the 4x400-meter relay team earn the Sea Gulls' fourth victory of the day as the group earned the win behind a time of 4:05.41. This marks the second time this season McCloskey has garnered CAC weekly accolades.

 

Field Athlete of the Week

Christopher Newport sophomore Zoe Stauffer registered the region's top effort in the heptathlon during the Captains Classic over the weekend. During the two-day competition, she accumulated a score of 4,138, which ranks first in the region by 59 points and stands as the sixth-best mark in program history. During the heptathlon, she posted PRs in six events while adding an outdoor best in the seventh discipline. Her finest effort came in the javelin after unloading a 36.21-meter toss, which ranks as the second-best throw in the CAC this year. In addition to her showing in the javelin, she also moved into the top-25 in the South / Southeast Region in the 100-hurdles (16.02) and high jump (1.50 meters).

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

Mary Washington's Haileigh Byrd finished first in the 100 and 400 meter hurdles at the Gallaudet Invitational, at 17.45 and 1:12.87...York's Kelsie Naldrett had a strong meet at Wednesday's YCP Twilight Meet in York. Naldrett won the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:09.10. She was a member of the 4x400 meter relay team as they combined to finish with a time of 4:23.17. Naldrett also finished eighth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 27.91...York's Katie Krutz had a fantastic meet at Wednesday's YCP Twilight Meet. Krutz was a part of the winning 4x400 meter relay team as they combined to post a time of 4:23.17. She finished second in the pole vault as she cleared a best height of 2.98 meters (9' 9.25"). Krutz then finished seventh in the long jump with a best leap of 4.40 meters (14' 5.25")...Frostburg's Keirstin Tawney won the gold after tossing the hammer 45.05 meters, a new school record at Mason-Dixon Invitational at Gettsburg College...Salisbury's Kyleigh Dumas earned the victory in the pole vault over the weekend at the Captains' Classic as she cleared the bar at height of 11' 7.75." Dumas currently ranks 11th in the nation for Division III Women, just a half inch behind 10th place...Southern Virginia's Mesi Havea led the Knights with a victory in the hammer throw with a mark of 45.92m to go along with a third-place finish in the discus with a throw of 40.19m and a sixth-place in the shot put measuring 11.54m at the Captains Classic
