FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- York senior Zach Hossler and Salisbury senior Connor Reeves were tabbed as the CAC Baseball Players of the Week for April 23, 2018.

York senior Zach Hossler was tabbed as the CAC Player of the Week after hitting going 10-for-14 at the plate with six RBIs and five runs scored in a 2-1 week for the Spartans. The second baseman began the week by going 3-for-4 with a run scored and four RBIs in the 18-7 win over Frostburg State. Hossler then went 4-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBIs in a15-2 win in game one of a doubleheader with Salisbury. He concluded the week with a 3-for-4 performance with a run scored and a double in a game two setback against the Sea Gulls. Hossler hit .714 for the week with a .786 slugging percentage and a .733 on-base percentage. He was also perfect in nine fielding chances for the week. 

 

Pitcher of the Week

Salisbury senior Connor Reeves was selected as the CAC Pitcher of the Week after registering a pair of victories on the mound last week for the Sea Gulls. Reeves appeared in two games for Salisbury, including one start and one relief appearance, and earned wins in both. He collected 13 combined strikeouts and did not walk a batter in his 11 1/3 innings of work. Reeves only allowed one earned run and five total hits for an ERA of 0.79. With his win on Saturday against York, Reeves now currently sits alone atop all of Division III with 10 victories

In the D3baseball.com week 8 rankings, Christopher Newport is No. 9, Salisbury is No. 19 and Frostburg State is receiving votes ... In the ABCA/Collegiate Baseball Poll, Christopher Newport is No. 9 and Salisbury is No. 27 ...CNU sophomore southpaw Brian Owens appeared in all three games for the Captains last week, retiring all but one batter he faced. Owens struck out eight batters and walked just one and did not give up a hit in 4.1 innings of relief, helping CNU secure wins at Southern Virginia and Penn State Harrisburg ... Frostburg State junior Brady Adam hit .500 in four games with a home run and five RBIs. Adam ranks fourth in the conference with 71 strikeouts ... Mary Washington junior Joe Thompson pitched a complete game win at Frostburg State on Saturday, allowing one run on eight hits, with one walk and five strikeouts in a 9-1 Eagle win. Freshman Nick Bass hit .533 on the week for Mary Washington, including four hits in a game at Frostburg and three in a win over St. Mary's ... Penn State Harrisburg sophomore Bret Williams reached the 100-hit mark last week, collecting four hits on the week including a home run against Christopher Newport that help the Lions pick up a win over the Captains ... St. Mary's sophomore Jay Hammett notched his team-best 13th multiple-hit game with back-to-back two-hit games at Southern Virginia. Hammett started the week with his team-leading fifth multiple-RBI game. He stretched his hit streak to eight with at least one hit in St. Mary's 1-2 week. Jackson Edelman picked up his fifth win of the season as Edelman worked seven innings in a 14-6 win at Southern Virginia .. Salisbury sophomore Justin Meekins led off in all four games for the Sea Gulls, batting .333 (5-for-15), while also drawing five walks for a .500 on base percentage. He swiped three bases, drove in three runs, and scored another four ... Southern Virginia senior Ryan Saunders led the Knights with five RBIs and six runs scored last week, notching a hit in all four games. Senior pitcher Tayler Peterson won his fifth straight game with a season-high 12 strikeouts to keep the Knights in the playoff picture. Peterson remains undefeated in CAC play and has a CAC-best conference ERA of 1.18 ... Wesley senior Chris Seibert went 13-for-19 (.684) with two home runs, 12 RBIs, six runs scored and three doubles last week. He continued his on-base streak to 15 games and slugged at 1.158. Seibert went 6-for-6 in the first game of the doubleheader on Saturday against Marymount and hit a pair of home runs in the nightcap against the Saints ... York senior Joel Kenney held Salisbury to two runs on four hits in a complete-game victory on Saturday. Kenney struck out a career-high 11 and walked four as he limited Salisbury to just two runs, over six runs under their season average coming into the game.
