YORK, Pa. -- Christopher Newport freshman Liz Andrews and York freshman Ginger Lewis were named the CAC Softball Players of the Week for April 17, 2017.

Christopher Newport freshman Liz Andrews earned CAC Player of the Week accolades after leading the Captains to a 4-0 week and the CAC regular season title with seven hits and 10 RBIs in just 13 at-bats. She recorded all seven hits in a span of 10 at bats through the first three games of the weekend series that captured the conference title and top seed for CNU. Andrews hit .538 with a home run, triple, and two doubles, compiling a slugging percentage of 1.077.

York freshman Ginger Lewis received CAC Pitcher of the Week honors after posting a 3-0 record and allowing just one run and nine hits in 23.0 innings of work. Lewis totaled 15 strikeouts in wins over Elizabethtown, Salisbury, and Wesley, helping the Spartans clinch the No. 4 seed in the CAC Tournament. She opened the week with a one-hit shout in a 6-0 win at Elizabethtown, carrying a no-hitter into the bottom of the seventh inning. She then helped the Spartans snap a 24-game losing streak to Salisbury with a nine-inning, four-hit performance, surrendering just one run. Closing out the week, she shut out Wesley in a crucial CAC contest to secure a playoff spot for the Spartans. Shewalked just one batter on the week.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

The five-team CAC Tournament field is now set and will be hosted by top-seeded Christopher Newport from Thursday, Apr. 20 through Saturday, Apr. 22 at Captains Park ... Christopher Newport swept past Frostburg State on Saturday to claim the regular season title and the top seed in the CAC Tournament for the third time in the last four years ... Frostburg State (No. 2 seed), Salisbury (No. 3 seed), York (No. 4 seed), and Mary Washington (No. 5) will also compete for a CAC title this weekend ... Game one will feature No. 5 Mary Washington vs. No. 4 York. Game two will feature No. 3 Salisbury vs. No. 2 Frostburg State. Top-seeded CNU will take on the winner of game one ... CNU's Aubrey Bates did not allow any runs in 10 innings of work last week, including a complete-game shutout at Frostburg State to give the Captains the top seed in the CAC Tournament ... Sam Gatton hit .476 (10-of-21) with five runs, two home runs, four RBIs and a double as Frostburg State closed the regular season as the No. 2 seed in the CAC Tournament ... Danielle Newman led Mary Washington with a .500 average this week, including a 4-for-4 performance with two doubles and a home run in a 7-5 come from behind win over Southern Virginia. Her three-run homer in the seventh in the top of the seventh inning for the 7-5 win. Kara Deppe won a pair of games this week, as UMW qualified for the CAC Tournament. She had two wins in a doubleheader sweep over Southern Virginia, winning 6-1 and 7-5. She had a complete game win in game one, allowing two runs on four hits with five strikeouts, and pitched 2.1 innings of one run relief in the second. For the week, she posted a 1.75 ERA in four outings, with 17 strikeouts against four walks ... Salisbury's LeAnne Collins batted a team-best .556 in a 3-1 week of CAC play. The leadoff hitter got few RBI chances, but got herself on base, and came around to score six times out of 19 plate appearances. Shannon Powell figured positively in the decision in each of her three appearances in a 3-1 week for Salisbury. In her starts against Penn State Harrisburg and York, she went the distance, picking up the victory each time. Her lone relief appearance resulted in a save, finishing off the first win against Harrisburg ... Southern Virginia freshman Heather Terranova batted .300 this week with a team-high three RBIs, two of them coming from a homer in game two on Saturday ... Wesley's Nina Marcano hit .526 with two home runs, seven RBIs and five runs scored on the week. Marcano also became Wesley softball's all-time hits leader in the doubleheader at Penn St.-Harrisburg. Marcano has tallied 173 hits in her career.
