YORK, Pa. -- Salisbury junior Alison Schwartz and Frostburg State junior Zoe Harris received CAC Women's Track & Field weekly awards for March 22, 2017.

Salisbury junior Alison Schwartz was honored as the CAC Track Athlete of the Week after breaking the school record in the 10,000 meters at the 49er Classic at UNC Charlotte. Schwartz's time of 38:29.99 broke the SU school record set in 1997 by Vicki Huchko, who posted a time of 38:44.5. She finished fourth in the event, and also finished just two places back of former Olympic runner and two-time gold medal winner at the World Cross Country Championships Zola Budd Pieterse, who is now a coach at Coastal Carolina. It is the second school record Schwartz has broken this season.

Frostburg State junior Zoe Harris received CAC Field Athlete of the Week accolades after posting the ninth-best javelin throw in the nation at the UMW Invitational. Harris recorded a mark of 37.13 meters in the javelin en route to a first-place finish, besting the second-place competitor by nearly five meters. Her javelin throw is tops in the CAC and ninth in Division III so far this spring. She also captured sixth in the shot put at 9.72 meters.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

Five CAC track & field teams competed last week ... Christopher Newport competed at the Tribe Invitational at William & Mary. Hannah Bowden opened up the spring season with an impressive performance in the 100-hurdles, posting the top time among Division III competitors - and equaled the fastest time among all entrants - after crossing the line in 15.29. That clocking currently ranks first in the CAC and seventh in the nation this year. Along with her performance in the hurdles, she also moved into first in the CAC and 12th in the NCAA in the long jump with a 5.24-meter distance during the competition. Hannah Shoemaker finished second overall and first among DIII competitors in the hammer throw at 41.45 meters, which ranks atop the CAC and 24th nationally ... Junior Janel Moore was the anchor leg of the winning 4x100 relay for Mary Washington at the UMW Invitational on Saturday with a time of 50.47 seconds. Moore won the 100 meters at 12.78 seconds as well as the 200 meters at 26.26 seconds. Freshman Sabrina Johnson won the shot put at 37 feet, 10.5 inches, as well as the discus at 109 feet, 7.25 inches, and took second in the hammer throw at the UMW Invitational on Saturday ... Penn State Harrisburg will open its spring season this weekend at the Jim Taylor Invitational at Susquehanna ... Southern Virginia participated in its second outdoor meet of the season at Washington & Lee last weekend. Freshman Aly Abel ran personal bests in the 800 (2:42.76) and 1500 (5:44.18) for the Knights ... Wesley will open its spring on Friday, March 31 at the Danny Curran Invitational at Widener ... York's meet at Elizabethtown was cancelled due to snow.
