Salisbury Junior Katie Stouffer Named CAC Player of the Week for Second Time This Season

Salisbury junior Katie Stouffer was honored as the CAC Volleyball Player of the Week for the second time this year after leading the Sea Gulls to a 3-0 week, including two CAC victories that locked up the No. 2 seed in the upcoming CAC Tournament. Stouffer averaged 5.30 kills per set to go with a .325 hitting percentage. She posted 19 kills in a 3-1 victory over Marymount that secured a first-round bye for the Sea Gulls, and added 17 kills against both York and Lycoming on Saturday. She also notched seven blocks for the week. The Sea Gulls needed just 10 sets to secure the three wins.

Christopher Newport completed its third straight perfect CAC regular season last week, as the Captains have now gone 26-0 in their three years in the conference ... The CAC Tournament begins tonight, with No. 6 Frostburg State at No. 3 Mary Washington and No. 5 Marymount at No. 4 St. Mary's. Both matchups start at 7 p.m. ... No. 1 CNU and No. 2 Salisbury earned first-round byes and will host Thursday's semifinals ... Christopher Newport is ranked No. 2 and Mary Washington is No. 4 in the Oct. 29 NCAA Mid-Atlantic Region Rankings ... CNU is No. 5 in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Week 8 Top-25, released last Tuesday. UMW is just outside the top-25 of the AVCA poll, receiving 9 votes ... Abby McIntyre led CNU to the CAC regular season championship with a career-high 25 kills in the finale at Marymount on Saturday. She also added 15 digs, becoming only seventh player in program history to have 25 kills and 15 digs in a single match ... Frostburg State's Lindsey Scepura finished four matches last week with 88 digs and 12 assists, including a career-high 35 digs against Catholic. She also added 28 digs in a win over St. Mary's that clinched a CAC Tournament berth for the Bobcats ... Senior Emma Murphy led Mary Washington to three more wins this week, to run its win streak to six matches. Murphy had nine kills, four digs, and two block assists against Virginia Wesleyan, eight kills, three blocks, and two aces against Southern Virginia, and eight kills, four aces, two digs, and a block against Penn State Harrisburg. For the week, she hit .367 with 25 kills, nine digs, six blocks, and 33.5 blocks ... Marymount's Caroline Hanson almost posted the team's first triple-double for the season with eight kills, 20 assists and 12 digs against CNU ... Mandy Goodspeed helped St. Mary's to a 2-2 week, leading the team in kills, kills per set, and hitting percentage ... Wesley's Tionne Graves-Brown ended her season on a high note, recording her 12th double-double of the season with 16 kills and 17 digs against Southern Virginia on Saturday. The outside hitter led the Wolverines in kills this season and broke the program's single-season record for kills by nearly 40, recording 283 kills on the year.
