Mary Washington Senior Jenna Steele and Salisbury Senior Amanda Cooper Named CAC Field Hockey Players of the Week

YORK, Pa. -- Mary Washington senior Jenna Steele and Salisbury senior Amanda Cooper were selected as the CAC Field Hockey Players of the Week for Nov. 2, 2015. 

Offensive Player of the Week

Mary Washington senior Jenna Steele was named  the CAC Offensive Player of the Week for the third time this season after scoring four goals in a 7-1 victory over Frostburg State, helping the Eagles secure the top seed in the CAC Tournament. Steele raised her CAC-leading goals total to 23 with the four-goal performance against the Bobcats. She scored three straight in the first half and added another in the second frame. 

Defensive Player of the Week

Salisbury senior Amanda Cooper was honored as the CAC Defensive Player of the week after recording a defensive save in each of the Sea Gulls' CAC victories last week. In the Sea Gulls' 3-2 double overtime victory over Christopher Newport, Cooper recorded a key defensive save in the second overtime period to keep Salisbury in the game. Later in the week, Cooper managed another defensive save in a win over Frostburg State.

The CAC semifinals are set for Wednesday, with No. 1 Mary Washington hosting No. 4 York at 2:30 p.m. and No. 2 Salisbury hosting No. 3 Christopher Newport at 6 p.m. ... In the Oct. 28 NCAA South Region rankings, Christopher Newport is ranked No. 3, Mary Washington No. 4 and Salisbury No. 5 ... Salisbury is ranked No. 7 in the Penn Monto / National Field Hockey Coaches Association Oct. 27 National Rankings, while Mary Washington is No. 11 and Christopher Newport is No. 13 ... Cori Black posted assists on both of CNU's goals against Salisbury on Wednesday ... Frostburg State goalkeeper Nicole Leighty posted 32 saves in just over 60 minutes of action in the final two games of the season, including 19 saves against Salisbury ... York's Beth Patrick led the Spartans to a 3-0 victory over St. Mary's in the opening round of the CAC Tournament on Sunday. Patrick assisted on the Spartans' opening goal and then banged home a key insurance goal in the 58th minute to push the York lead to 2-0. For the year, Patrick has 11 points on three goals and five assists.
