Christopher Newport Sophomore Patrick Burns and Salisbury Senior Jeff Byrnes Named CAC Men's Soccer Players of the Week

YORK, Pa. -- Christopher Newport sophomore Patrick Burns and Salisbury senior Jeff Byrnes were selected as the CAC Men's Soccer Players of the Week for Oct. 6, 2014.  

Offensive Player of the Week

Christopher Newport sophomore Patrick Burns was named the CAC Offensive Player of the Week after scoring two goals and recording four assists in leading the Captains to a perfect 3-0 week. Burns factored into six of CNU's seven goals last week. He opened the week with both assists in a 2-1 win at Greensboro, before tallying a goal and an assist in wins over both Wesley and Randolph.

Salisbury senior Jeff Byrnes was selected as the CAC Defensive Player of the Week after helping the Sea Gulls remain undefeated with a pair of shutouts. Byrnes played all 200 minutes through two games. Against Catholic, the Salisbury back line only allowed five total shots in a scoreless tie, before surrendering just eight shots, three on goal, in 1-0 win against Mary Washington.

Christopher Newport is ranked #13 and Salisbury #20 in last week's NSCAA National Rankings ... In the D3soccer.com top 25, Salisbury is ranked #14 and CNU #15 ...  Mary Washington sophomore Jacob Burke scored the game winner in a 2-0 win over Randolph-Macon last Tuesday ... St. Mary's goalkeeper Zack Haussler made a season-best seven stops while junior Jackson Ranheim notched the game-winning goal with a header off a corner kick in the 37th minute in a 1-0 win over Frostburg State to keep the Seahawks undefeated in CAC play ... Salisbury junior midfielder Michael Feeney recorded his first collegiate goal and the game-winning tally on Saturday in a 1-0 shutout victory over Mary Washington ... Southern Virginia earned its first ever CAC victory with a 2-1 double-overtime triumph over Penn State Harrisburg on Saturday. Sophomore Josh Smith scored two goals and had one assist in the Knights' 4-1 win over Emory & Henry, including the game-winning goal. Smith also had an assist in the victory over Penn State Harrisburg ... York defeated Marymount 3-0 on Saturday for its first conference win of the year.
