FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- Christopher Newport's Nick Baham & Penn State Harrisburg's Zach Gettys have been selected CAC Baseball Players of the Week for April 29, 2019. 

Player of the Week

Christopher Newport senior first baseman Nick Baham had a monster week at the dish for the Captains, hitting .500 while slugging 1.688 ... Went 8-for-16 at the plate and six of those eight hits left the yard ... His six home runs extended his national leading total to 19 as the senior right-handed batter shattered the Capital Athletic Conference single season record (previously 14) and also set a new standard at Christopher Newport (Matt Turner's 17 in 2003) ... He has hit a home run in five straight games and seven of the last nine contests ... This week, Baham drove in 10 runs and scored 9 times with seven extra-base hits ... He was intentionally walked twice and finished the four-game week with 27 total bases ... Four of his six home runs this week either tied the game or gave the Captains the lead ... Tied the program record with 3 HR in a game against York while going 4-for-4 with an intentional walk ... Also delivered a pair of sacrifice flies and was perfect in 30 chances defensively. This is the second time this season Baham has garnered CAC Player of the Week accolades.

Penn State Harrisburg sophomore Zach Gettys was stout on the mound in Penn State Harrisburg's 6-0 victory over Frostburg State in game two of a conference doubleheader on Saturday afternoon. The sophomore got the start and the win, throwing eight scoreless innings and allowing just four baserunners on two hits and two walks. The lefty struck out 11 batters and fielded his position perfectly, recording three assists on three chances.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

Salisbury's Xavier Marmol picked up a pair of wins in both of his starts last week, combining to pitch 15 1/3 innings. The freshman southpaw struck out 14 total batters while surrendering only four walks and five earned runs...Salisbury's Justin Meekins started in all six contests over the past week for the Sea Gulls, combining to go 10 for 19 (.526). The junior connected for his team-leading fifth home run in a 10-9 victory over St. Mary's College of Maryland on Tuesday afternoon, and finished the week with seven RBI and six runs scored. He also added a walk and four stolen bases...Mary Washington's Marcel Barrett posted seven hits in 13 at bats this week for a .538 average, walking three times, scoring four runs and driving in a pair, as UMW won three of four. He connected for his first home run of the season, reached base at a .625 clip, and slugged .846. He also pitched three innings, allowing one hit while striking out three…Mary Washington's Hank Biggs made three appearances this week, posting a win and a loss as a starter and aiding UMW to a win in relief in another. He struck out 10 batters in a complete game against Southern Virginia, falling 2-0. He then pitched two innings of relief in a 12-6 win over St. Mary's, striking out one, before topping the Seahawks in game two of the double header, allowing three hits in five innings with three Ks. For the week, he posted a 2.81 ERA, fanning 14 and walking one....York's Grant Oberholtzer had another solid week for the Green and White. Oberholtzer hit .333 with three doubles, a triple, and a grand slam. His grand slam came in a tie game in the ninth inning to lift the Spartans to an upset at CNU. Oberholtzer also drove in six runs, scored nine, and was 3-for-3 stealing bases on the week...Penn State Harrisburg's Miguel Torres was key in leading Penn State Harrisburg to a 4-0 week. The senior began the week by going 2-for-2 with a home run, three walks, three RBIs and a run scored in a 7-4 win at regionally-ranked Alvernia on Monday. The infielder followed it up by hitting three homers, driving in seven runs and scoring five more in a 30-6 win at Frostburg State on Saturday; a game during which he racked up the second-most total bases in a single game in CAC history (13). For the week, he slashed .444/.560/.1.111 with an OPS of 1.671, recorded 20 total bases, walked five times, scored eight runs and drove in 11 more...Frostburg State's Jason Paredes hit for the cycle in Frostburg's 14-7 loss to Penn State Harrisburg on Sunday.
