York Sophomore Jess Delviscio and Christopher Newport Senior Briana Sutton Claim Women's Track & Field Weekly Recognition

YORK, Pa. -- York sophomore Jess Delviscio and Christopher Newport senior Briana Sutton were selected as the CAC Women's Track & Field Athletes of the Week for March 28, 2017.

York sophomore Jess Delviscio received the CAC Track Athlete of the Week accolades after breaking a school record in the 1500 meters at the Jim Taylor Invitational at Susquehanna. Delviscio crossed in 4:43.55, breaking the York school record by over eight seconds. Delviscio's time is the best in the CAC this season by over 16 seconds and is currently the 11th best time in the country. She placed second among a group of 50 competitors that included many from Division I schools, and finished behind only a DI runner from Bucknell.

Christopher Newport senior Briana Sutton was named the CAC Field Athlete of the Week after winning three events and establishing a new school record at the Commonwealth Duals on Saturday at POMOCO Stadium. Her school-record mark of 38.62 meters in the javelin highlighted her performance. That throw broke the previous CNU school record of 38.30 set by Anette Glasser in 1999. Her throw also ranks first in the CAC by over four feet this year and stands 16th in the NCAA. Additionally, Sutton won the high jump with a 1.58-meter performance. That ranks first in the CAC and 20th in the country so far this year. She also won the long jump with a 5.21-meter leap, which ranks second in the conference this year.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

Five CAC track & field teams competed last week ... Christopher Newport hosted the Commonwealth Duals. Senior Logan Harrington won the 800 meters in 2:15.16, a time that ranks fourth in the NCAA and tops in the CAC and the South/Southeast Region by over three seconds ... Frostburg State competed at the Jim Taylor Invitational at Susquehanna. Junior Kayla Truesdel collected two second-place finishes in the 100 and 200-meter. Truesdel finished the 100 at 12.49 and the 200-meter dash at 25.52. Both are ECAC qualifying times ... Mary Washington junior Janel Moore was a member of the second place 4x100 relay at the Jack Toms Invitational at Lynchburg on Saturday. She also finished second in the 200 meters with a time of 25.65. Both the relay and Moore in the 200 are ranked in the top 25 nationally.
