YORK, Pa. -- Christopher Newport junior Makenzie Fancher was named the CAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week for Jan. 23, 2017.

Christopher Newport junior Makenzie Fancher was named the CAC Player of the Week after leading the Captains to a 2-0 week that included a victory over nationally-ranked Mary Washington. Fancher averaged 17.5 points per game on 57.9% shooting, including a season-high 20 points in the sixth-ranked Captains' victory over 10th-ranked UMW. Fancher was also on fire from long range, hitting 3.5 three-pointers per contest at a 53.8% clip. She hit 85.7% of her free throws and added 2.5 assists and 2.0 rebounds per game.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

Christopher Newport and Mary Washington are ranked in both the WBCA and D3hoops.com national rankings. CNU is ranked No. 6 by both polls, while UMW is ranked No. 9 by D3hoops.com and No. 10 by the WBCA ... Frostburg State senior Kirsten Rayner averaged 18.5 points per contest over two games last week, includuing 22 points in the Bobcats' win over Southern Virginia ... Mary Washington senior guard Megan Green scored 13 points on Wednesday at CNU, and scored 14 in a win over York on Saturday ... Marymount junior Leah Hurst, the league leader in assists, helped guide the Saints to a 2-0 week to cap off a perfect three-game home stand with double-digit victories over Penn State Harrisburg and Salisbury. Hurst averaged a team-leading 13.5 points while pulling down 4.5 rebounds, dishing out three assists and grabbing 2.5 steals per game ... Nina Haller averaged 15.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, and went 8-of-8 at the free throw line in St. Mary's two games this past week. Haller is now less than 50 points from her 1,000th career point ... Salisbury senior Lauren Rothfeld averaged a double-double for the Sea Gulls with 15.5 points per game and 10.0 rebounds per game. She did most of her scoring against Wesley, picking up 23 points in a 97-48 win. On the week, Rothfeld went 5-for-8 from three-point range and averaged 2.5 steals per game ... Southern Virginia sophomore Kimberly Eads scored career-high 22 points in narrow loss at Wesley, and posted her seventh and eighth double-digit scoring games of the season this past week. Eads ranks third on the Knights in PPG (9.7) and second in RPG (4.6) ... Junior guard Alexus Stroud tallied a pair of double-digit point totals in Wesley's two CAC games last week. After recording 11 points against Salisbury, Stroud came off the bench and notched 17 points in the win over Southern Virginia.

Brionna Johnson averaged 13.0 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 2.0 assists in three games this week helping Wesley to a pair of victories. The senior forward netted 10 points, including the game-winning putback with 1.4 seconds remaining to give Wesley a two-point win over Widener University in the team's season opener.
