Frostburg State Sophomore Kayla Truesdel and Mary Washington Junior Sheree Turner Awarded as CAC Women's Track & Field Athletes of the Week

YORK, Pa. -- Frostburg State sophomore Kayla Truesdel and Mary Washington junior Sheree Turner were honored as the CAC Women's Track & Field Athletes of the Week for April 5, 2016.

Frostburg State sophomore Kayla Truesdel earned CAC Track Athlete of the Week honors after posting two individual wins and a relay victory as the Bobcats hosted the 2016 Bobcat Invitational. She opened up with a victory in the 100-meter dash at 12.66. She then claimed top honors in the 200-meter dash at 25.65, a time which ranks atop the CAC and 20th in Division III. Truesdel closed out the meet with a 4x400 meter relay victory in 4:13.98 along with Amy Virostek, Destiny Logan, and Samantha Gittere.

Mary Washington junior Sheree Turner claimed CAC Field Athlete of the Week accolades after picking up one first-place finish and a pair of seconds at the Roanoke Invitational on Saturday. Turner won the discus throw with a mark of 40.38 meters, and finished second in the shot put (11.36m) and hammer throw (43.85m).

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

All seven CAC track & field teams competed last weekend, continuing their preparation for the upcoming CAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships set for April 22-23 at Frostburg State ... Christopher Newport and Salisbury competed at the Colonial Relays at William & Mary, Penn State Harrisburg and York traveled to nearby Millersville for the Millersville Metrics, Frostburg State hosted its annual Bobcat Invitational, Mary Washington competed at the Roanoke Invitational, and Wesley traveled to Widener for the Daniel Curran Invitational ... CNU's Briana Stewart finished 11th overall and first among Division III competitors in the 1500 during the Colonial Relays. She posted a time of 4:47.86 in the event, which ranks fifth in CNU history. Later, she helped lead the 4x1500 relay to a time of 19:56.63. That clocking also led all Division III programs and ranked 15th overall ... Mary Washington finished third at Roanoke on Saturday. Jillian Weisbeck finished second in the 5000 meter run, at 19:10.66. Bailey Ratliff finished second in the high jump at 1.56 meters, and Taylor Cockerille won the shot put at 12.55 meters and took second in the discus at 36.70 meters ... Meghan McGowan led Salisbury at the Colonial Relays, taking ninth in the high jump. She recorded a top leap of 5'-3" in the event ... Wesley's Ashley Morris earned a win in the 100-meter hurdles at the Danny Curran Invitational. The sophomore ran to the gold finishing in 15.59 seconds.
