FREDERICKBURG, Va. -- Wesley senior Ashley Morris and Penn State Harrisburg freshman Rae Rae Taylor secured CAC Track & Field Athlete of the Week awards for April 17, 2018.

Wesley senior Ashley Morris was honored as the CAC Track Athlete of the Week after winning the 100-meter hurdles at the Widener Quarry Classic with the 23rd-fastest time in Division III. Morris crossed the finish line in 14.95 seconds, which ranks first in the CAC and second in the Mideast Region this spring.

Penn State Harrisburg freshman Rae Rae Taylor collected CAC Field Athlete of the Week after posting the sixth-best heptathlon score in Division III this spring at the Mondschein Multi hosted by Kutztown. Taylor totaled 4,438 points throughout the event. Taylor also excelled in the long jump, posting a mark of 5.41 meters, which ranks 42nd nationally and atop the CAC this season.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

Christopher Newport junior Sarah Johnson starred in the discus during the Towson Invitational on Saturday. She finished first among Division III competitors with a 41.05-meter toss. That marked the second-best throw in CNU history and the finest effort since 2004. It also ranks first in the CAC this year. Additionally, she posted an 11.63-meter throw in the shot put, which placed her 11th overall and fourth among Division III entrants ... Frostburg State senior sprinter Kayla Truesdel posted two more wins last weekend at the Messiah Multi & Invitational. She won both the 100 (12.40) and 200-meter dashes (26.16) and hit ECAC Championship marks in both. She also helped the 4x100 to a win and the 4x400 to a runner-up showing ... Salisbury sophomore Ashley Mazer captured a third-place finish in the 5,000-meter run at the Towson Invitational on Saturday, crossing the finish line in a time of 19:24.20 ... Southern Virginia freshman Kyra Hale won the 100m hurdles Friday at Bridgewater with a lifetime best 15.88 time. She also placed in the top half of the women's 200m dash ... Wesley junior Jourdyn Beverly placed second in the hammer (43.45 m, 142-7) and third in the shot put (11.63 m, 38-2) at the Widener Quarry Classic ... York junior Alayna De Bruin put together the best 3,000 meter steeplechase time in the CAC this year as she crossed the line in a time of 11:53.21 at the Bucknell Bison Invitational on Saturday.
