FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- Christopher Newport sophomore Cutch Ellis was named the CAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week for Feb. 19, 2018.

Christopher Newport sophomore Cutch Ellis was named the CAC Player of the Week after posting a pair of double-doubles in wins over Mary Washington and York, helping the Captains clinch the No. 1 seed in the CAC Tournament. Ellis averaged 19.0 points, 12.5 rebounds, 2.5 three-pointers, 2.0 assists and 1.5 steals per contest. He set new career highs with 19 points and 13 points in a 75-71 win at Mary Washington, before matching his career-best 19 points and adding a dozen rebounds in a 81-71 home victory over York that sealed the top seed in this week's CAC Tournament. The pair of double-doubles marked the first of Ellis' career as a Captain.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

In the final game of the CAC men's basketball regular season, Christopher Newport outlasted York 81-71 at the Freeman Center on Saturday night to claim the top seed in the CAC Tournament for the third straight year ... The Captains (14-4 CAC) and Spartans (14-4) finished with identical records atop the conference, but CNU earned the No. 1 seed in next week's six-team CAC postseason via a tiebreaker. Both squads will host semifinals on Thursday ... The six-team CAC Tournament will begin with Tuesday's first round, featuring No. 6 Wesley at No. 3 Salisbury and No. 5 Frostburg State at No. 4 Mary Washington ... The CAC Championship will be played on Saturday at the highest remaining seed's home court ... Junior Edwin Cole powered Frostburg State with 23 points as the Bobcats clinched the fifth seed in the CAC Tournament. He posted a double-double in a loss at Southern Virginia ... Mary Washington senior Eric Shaw scored a team-high 17 points on 7-of-16 shooting in a loss to CNU on Wednesday, and then scored 23 points on 9-of-17 shooting in a win over Marymount on Saturday. For the week, he shot 48.5% from the floor ... Marymount sophomore Ibrahim Kamara had a strong offensive week, including a career-high 21 points against Mary Washington while adding 10 rebounds for his second double-double of the year. He averaged 17.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game ... St. Mary's sophomore Matt Ayoub put up 15 second-half points en route to finishing with a team-best 17 points at York and then finished with 10 points, three rebounds, and two assists against Penn State Harrisburg ... Chad Barcikowski helped Salisbury to a 1-1 week posting two 20-point games. Barcikowski netted 24 points in a loss on the road at Wesley but turned around on Senior Day to net 25 in a 14-point win over Southern Virginia. For the week Barcikowski totaled 49 points on a 43 percent mark from the field and was almost 60% from the field against Southern Virginia. The two 20-point games moves Barcikowski to seven now for the season. He also added seven total steals and four blocks for the week ... Southern Virginia senior Aarun Rumbaugh led the Knights with 16 points in a mid-week win over Frostburg State while also pulling down five boards. He then led the team with eight rebounds on Saturdasy vs. Salisbury. Rumbaugh finished his career with 800 points ... The CAC's leading scorer, Wesley's Brian Cameron notched his fourth double-double of the season with a 17-point, 12-rebound effort in a 67-57 win over Salisbury.
